id like to think the OLG and Amulet artworks have some kind of connection, matter of fact VW deluxe and the Awake In A Dream artworks also have that similar colorful bulb/balloon thing going on but honestly its just me being overly analytical and trying to find bridges when its probably more just Esao drawing what he thinks looks good

i know little about Esao as a person other than the fact that he/they are an incredible artist but does Circa commission him to make art for their albums/EPs/Singles or does he just give them one of his preexisting pieces or do they collaborate? just curious because i feel like Esaos art is so entwined with Circas music and the kind of "world" that their music brings you into

after learning the story of the band during that era it makes sense now...they did almost break up and everything almost fell apart due to naturally drifting and anthony's addiction, but i like to think the pyramid type structure is actually resisting the monster and ends up free.

    Album: juturna > olg/bsn > vw > descensus
Art: olg (my fav all time) > vw > juturna > descensus > bsn
and just wanted to say I don't understand how one could say olg doesn't have the best opener. I mean, have ya heard it??

that would make the most sense. idk just seems like the artworks always reflect the music and there does seem to be some sort of connection between some of them

absolutely, im sure they've done interviews (both esao and the band) about the impact they have on each other, i'll have to go digging. circa has had a tight grip on the visual part of their band from the jump, which you know i appreciate a lot (my favorite bands are thursday, the 1975, and tame impala ffs)

I've made no secret of my OLG love, but it's easier for me to see how someone could rank it below #1 in the discography than Living Together below #1 among their openers.

I waffle between Living Together and In the Morning... as the best song they've recorded.

    Interview – Circa Survive

Circa Survive has had abstract album artwork created by American painter Esao Andrews since Juturna. What is it about his style of paintings that work with the equilibrium of the band?

I think from the very beginning after seeing what he initially made for us, we were all completely blown away. Colin, Anthony and Steve are all great artists and we all appreciate art so it is an integral part of our albums. We emailed Esao before Juturna’s release not thinking he’d be interested and asked if he’d make the cover for our new record.

After he accepted we gave him songs and just told him to paint what he saw and felt from those songs. I can’t say what it is about Esao, but it’s just one of those feelings you get and we love working with him. With this new record we wanted a bit of a progression artistically and we think he really accomplished that with the new album artwork.

I don't want to do all these rankings, maybe later, but OLG is number 1 in art and closer and it's not even close for me

Agree whole heartedly on the discog/opener line
Living together may be #1 for me as well but a couple juturna songs may beat out morning for me. That song's intro is spectacular though too.

Really tempted to get that deluxe edition olg. Anybody heard the demos? Feels weird to ask if it's worth it since it's so cheap but...worth it if you already have the album?

I prefer things between waffles rather than the waffle between.

can my thing be bad puns?

ty for digging this up daddy

thats really cool though that theyve essentially got Esao as their own artist haha. so cool that hes actually like a fan of the band who bases the art on the music
