You must fix your heart Supporter

Haha, maybe I'm biased since I'm a big fan but I haven't got that impression from most (if any) fans. If I did though it still wouldn't affect my opinion on the band at all.

I think it also affects your view of the band if you hear these opinions BEFORE you hear the music, and have all that in your head as you dive in for a first time.

    hmmm

Yeah, a fan base can definitely have a negative effect on your relationship with a band through no fault of the actual music. I mean I've never bothered to listen to System Of A Down because there was a guy I hated in my year group at school who was obsessed with them. Every time I heard Chop Suey I couldn't help but think of him and consequently I've never listened to any of their albums. It's only natural really.

Can't speak for anyone else on this, but I do that first one in a joking manner for a lot of the well praised stuff out here, not being literal at all when I say the latest Kanye or Hotelier record is infallible.

I do too on here, I'm talking more IRL friends than online, online I can deal with whatever hype but my IRL friends usually mean it and never let anyone live it down haha.

I like Muse but they are far, far, far from top 5 discographies for me (The Resistance and The 2nd Law are mediocre records).

Still get down with OoS, Absolution and Black Holes & Revelations.

I couldn't care less about the Beatles but Beatles-hate is one of the most annoying circlejerks I've ever had the misfortune to witness.

Any "popular unpopular opinion" falls into this category, actually.

I'm just scrolling through this thread, so sorry for responding to these posts so late.

I loved VersaEmerge! That was still the time when I would listen to literally any band that signed to FBR, and I started with the s/t EP and loved everything after. I liked Perceptions, just not as much as the other stuff. As for being "another band like Paramore"--weren't there rumors that that's why FBR swiped them up in the first place? So they wouldn't be able to compete with them? I don't know how accurate those rumors were, but I definitely remember reading about it on AP.net.

That album is truly special imo. I like Limitless, but it feels like a misstep and kind of one-note after how great and varied The Other Side was.

I agree with this so much. I would say everything before keep you >>> keep you. PBTT was one of my favorite bands before they put that boring boring album.

  19. - Good News and We Were Dead are just as good as The Lonesome Crowded West and The Moon And Antarctica. They're solid albums, the songs are incredible live (I saw MM a few weeks ago - Black Cadillacs, Ocean Breathes Salty, Dashboard and Fire It Up were highlights) and the production is great. Good News and We Were Dead are also ideal albums to listen to if you want to get into Modest Mouse, much less abrasive and they do poppier songs so well! I know some people argue that they don't have big songs like Cowboy Dan or 3rd Planet but The World At Large and Spitting Venom are just as strong.

    - Hail to the Thief deserves more love. I know it's probably the least cohesive Radiohead album but it's full of huge songs that are heaps of fun.

    - Daisy is the best Brand New album.

Arctic Monkeys' first two records are by far their best. debut was just incredibly fun, catchy with an emotional punch towards the end. on the follow up they managed to show growth and still feel like they enjoyed what they were doing. Humbug is the biggest snoozefest i've ever heard and now they're just parodying themselves.

don't get me started on the NME wankfest over AM.

i honestly dont think they are that far off. i have never like the moon and antarctica. i consider myself a pretty big MM fan but i've sat through that record less times than i can count on both hands.

I don't like Marilyn Manson's last release, Pale Emperor at all, and can hardly finish it. That's an unpopular opinion as it is, but I also enjoyed every album he's put out before it.

I think it's cool that artists like Prince get a huge tribute from people around the world when they pass on, but if it were me dying, the idea of everybody in the world talking about me dying sounds really weird. And I think it's sort of strange that our culture is so saturated in media that when a big musician dies it's literally everywhere. It's like, not only are our priorities misplaced that it's the biggest news ever, but I'm not convinced it's the most respectful thing for someone's death to be broadcasted so heavily.

It's hard to know for certain though because you can't exactly ask a dead person how they feel about the coverage of their death.
