maybe like a dollar per ticket sale. thats negligible to me, and those tickets will still be sold if hypothetically i were to pass on buying one for that reason. but i subscribe to the idea that there's no ethical consumption under capitalism, so i'd probably just donate the equivalent amount of money i paid for the ticket to RAINN or another similar org and not lose sleep at night knowing the vast majority of my ticket purchase will go to man orch and the venue. thats just me, if people wanna not go because surfer blood is playing they're well within their right but i dont think it'll accomplish much since those tickets will be bought anyway.

yeah, i feel the same. different than a headlining show for them. pretty much the line of action is to do our best to see if we can stir up enough to get them off the show, and help bring awareness of the situation, and if nothing changes then *shrug*, nothing else to really do.

I mean I'm not saying everyone should just boycott the whole show. Obviously it's better that they get dropped. But people should absolutely not buy any of their merch

Right but the article gives details as to why otherwise yes it would be asinine to post that when there are many reasons why someone would plead guilty

oh yeah absolutely no one should buy their merch, and i think not showing up to their set is a good idea as well.

This album is absolutely phenomenal, wow. I can already tell after one listen that there's a very good chance this will end up my AOTY.

(Also to be clear, I'm not trying to distract at all from the discussion being had by posting this, I think it's an incredibly important discussion to be had and I'd be happy saving more thoughts on the album until later if you all would prefer returning to it later to avoid distracting from an important issue.)

to be clear: simply talking about the album doesnt take away from the other discussion. actively complaining about the other discussion/people not talking about the album is what takes away from that discussion

You like this more than I do then idk if it'll be in my top 5 or anything after over a dozen listens or so

Oh definitely, I agree with you... I was just restating that I hope this conversation continues and I don't want to detract from it in any way. I'm confident we're all capable of holding two conversations at the same time haha.

Idk how you can say you love this after one or two listens honestly

What I posted is just an initial impression and it could change obviously, but yeah I'm really really impressed so far. Also I think part of it is my feeling that I haven't heard very many albums yet this year that are on the level of my AOTYs from recent years... that's partly my own fault for not listening to as many albums this year and getting so caught up in other life stuff.

It's a difficult thing for me to explain, but I can usually get at least a general feel for how well an album sits with me after the first couple listens... I know a lot of people here are probably the same way. Obviously this album being so musically/conceptually dense makes that a bit more difficult, but even though I don't really understand the themes yet I feel like that'll enhance my enjoyment rather than diminish it, and I'm already enjoying it a lot.

Didn't you listen to it at some party or something? It's just hard for me to imagine loving an album so much after just one listen

Not to undersell the album or anything and not to sound like a dick I don't mean to just for me I've realized I kneejerk too much when t comes to music

I've only heard two songs that gave me the knee jerk reaction of AOTY or close to it.
Def because every MO album has been in my top 10 in its related year...outside of COPE

To chime in on the other conversation. Surfer Blood shouldn't be on the tour until change within that band happens. Applaud those who have taken to social to try and generate change.

Hopefully it is handled soon and people can get excited for the other sections of the bill. Because it is going to be one hell of a tour.

Yeah the caveat to my above post is if you already love the band. I'm not one to judge people's listening habits, it's not my place, just curious.

I'm with you generally. Usually takes me 10+ listens of any album to even know if I like it.
Which seems excessive to me. Ha

I'm real bad at being able to gauge how much I'll like an album on first listen. I think the last album I truly loved on first listen was I Like It When You Sleep.
