Society Has Turned the Shattered iPhone Screen Into a Mark of Shame

With even a decent screen protector being only $20, and the best being $40-$50 (with a $100 guarantee it won't shatter from the company) I don't get how anyone goes without one these days. A 7 Plus screen costs almost $100 replacement even with AppleCare, and + $200 without it.

Only 29 dollars with Apple Care and 149 out of warranty

If someone is quoting you for $100 bucks to replace your screen under AppleCare, they do not work for Apple, and you're getting scammed.

I don't even use a case. Haven't used anything on my phones for years.

I don't wanna pay nearly $1k for a beautiful product then wrap it up with ugly products. I think I've only had two AppleCare+ claims over the years and one was the $29 screen replacement, which is killer.

Honestly, even the $149 OOW price is good. Those shitty "Cell Phone Repair" stores popping up everywhere charge like $180 for screen replacement that won't even function right. Also, a replacement device on your carrier insurance would cost $199 if you cracked the screen.

I have had my 6 Plus for three years and it still works like the day I bought it, but I feel like it's time for me to upgrade with the iPhone 8/10th anniversary iPhone.

I'm wanting to switch to AT&T from Verizon. Do any of you have history with both and know if their coverage is basically the same? AT&T would save me money monthly but if the coverage is weak then I don't think it would be worth it.

I literally just switched from Verizon to AT&T about two weeks ago, and I can tell you in my region the coverage is pretty much the same. Verizon may hold a slight edge, but I've had zero issues with AT&T thus far.

Guys it isn't just my screen that is broken..it was crushed and there's a little indentation/crack below the glass.

Screen protector wouldn't have saved me.

So back to my original question..what would Apple give me towards a new phone now with a phone that is cracked even below the glass? Trying to weigh my options. I might have access to a 5S I can use until September.

Thanks, I think that's what I'm leaning towards.

If the rumors are true I get a feeling this iPhone 8/Pro/Edition will be irresistible for a lot of iPhone users.

    That's how it was looking.
This past week has been full of rumors that there will either be no Touch ID or it will be on the back of the device with facial recognition being added and that the "wireless charging" will in fact be qi charging with a dock.

I wouldn't mind facial recognition if it's as good as Touch ID, but if not then not having Touch ID could be a breaking point for me.

I'm less concerned with the qi charging because I'm okay with just plugging a cord into my phone if there will not be true wireless charging.

Im holding the rumors with a grain of salt, though. In 2013 rumors came out a few months before the release of the 5S that there wouldn't be a fingerprint scanner.

Likely switching away from Verizon this week - currently using my Mom's old iPhone 6 - over at T-Mobile they are running a promo where if you buy an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus they throw in an SE for "free" ($400 Visa gift card). REALLY tempting to me - I really wouldn't use 90% of the features on the iPhone 7 and prior to using the 6 I had a 5S and LOVED the smaller size.

Only reason I think I'd go with the 7 is just to have the latest and greatest (for now) and the extra future proofing since it has the better processor - but you know how Apple is. The SE probably won't start showing its age for another 2 years!

Does anyone here use an iPhone SE? I've heard really good things concerning the battery and speed. If the 8 is too expensive ($1100+) or i'm just not into the new design then I may get an SE. The body of the 5/5s/SE is by far my favorite iPhone design.

Might be picking one up tomorrow. Wife wants the 7 and T-Mobile is doing a deal where if you do a payment plan on the 7, they throw in a $400 visa gift card if you also get an SE. Figure I'll use that until next year and see what they do from there. Not interested in the first gen of a new design anyway.

I've got the first one and I've touted it here in the past. It's my favorite design as well and I have no complaints with it. Sometimes I wonder if I'm missing out on newer features like 3D Touch but then I realize it fits in my pocket comfortably and I get over it really quickly.

"We believe it would typically take 12 weeks from placement of fingerprint IC orders to full volume production of iPhones. Consequently, if Apple is able to solve its fingerprint problems and place orders for fingerprint ICs before August, it would likely be able to reach volume production in late October or early November. We believe this remains Apple's preferred path, and expect it would be acceptable to both consumers and investors. It is entirely unclear if Apple will be able to fix the problem in this time frame."

"We believe Apple's facial recognition system solution should work from many angles and in low-light environments. However, it would not work without clear line of sight to the user's face. Even if this encompassed just 5% of login scenarios, it would mean that several times a day the new iPhone would perform worse at an elemental feature than older iPhones, which would risk pushback from consumers. Further, we do not believe facial recognition would be initially qualified as an acceptable verification method for Apple Pay. While Apple could achieve this over time, the likelihood for an initial lack of Apple Pay could adversely affect demand."

AT&T had AirPods in randomly so I picked myself up a pair. Pretty damn slick.

Airpods are the best. Since I've had mine since late March I think I've charged them a total of 3 times.

What I really came in here to ask was about apple tv? Worth it?
