Hey guys, long time lurker here... Just wanted to mention that I was coming in to check out the thoughts around the lineup announcement and was surprised to find all of this. Just want to chime in - as someone that enjoys all sorts of entertainment, like sports, music, and movies, its hard to not be biased against someone after allegations are made or after something is proven to have happened. I'll use Michael Vick as an example... IMO, he was a scumbag, but I didn't watch him because of his personal life - I watched him because he was amazing at football. I watched him after he left the Falcons too... I still didn't like him. However, it was pretty eye opening that the Falcons were willing to sign him on a one day contract so he could retire as a Falcon. He was even at one of the playoff games last season and was honored while I was in the audience. To my surprise, he got a standing ovation... Perhaps he dealt with the consequences and is a new reformed Michael Vick... Either way, I think its interesting that the Falcons were willing to do all of that for him.

Whether or not this is the right place for this discussion is up to the admins of this forum... I just came here to talk about MO and the hype around the new album - not something that happened ~5 years ago. Hopefully the conversation will shift away from this soon and the animosity towards each other will die down.

Michael Vick isn't the best example. He was caught and served a prison sentence that cost him tens of millions of dollars. After he got out, he has been an advocate and raised awareness. He has also, as far as I know, taken full responsibility for what happened.

The issue here is that this guy has consistently denied what happened, and used his platform to discredit the victim. All while seemingly suffering little to no consequences.

I couldn't care less what you came into this thread for. This is more important than Manchester fucking Orchestra. If your hopes are that this conversation dies down so you and other can talk about MO some more, you need to get a grip on life and what's actually important. It sure as hell isn't A Black Mile To The Surface.

sometimes you gotta ask yourself "is what I'm posting contributing anything to the conversation?" before hitting that reply button

I do hope that the band didn't have anything to do with this or were unaware of it... I mean it's weird to see tigers jaw ignore it too bc they are usually such strong voices against these sorts of things... I guess time will tell l.

I think it's been good and bad. It's been disappointing in the sense that some people can so easily say truly hurtful and offensive things. What's been encouraging is that 95% of the posters have instantly shut down those people and we're mostly surrounded by good people who don't stand for that assanine behavior

First we'd like some clarification from the band or thier camp on who booked Surfer Blood. Second, I think most people would like them removed from those dates. Then I think we could move on in this thread.

Look, I get it. It's the Manchester thread and you want to talk about Manchester. But had this not been brought up, I would never have known the story behind this guy. I'm grateful this was brought to my attention.

Some things are bigger than an album coming out in a few weeks. Domestic abuse, any abuse should be talked about wherever and whenever it's brought up. Talking and educating is how we change things, how we stop the bullshit cycle of abuse

I know this post isn't adding much of anything but I really just want to be one more voice asserting that anyone who thinks talking about a rock band is more important than talking about abuse can fuck their way right off and out of this thread.

I tweeted andy. I think if enough people bring it to their attention it will make it harder to ignore. I'm not sure how much power they have over this but I would love to see them do the right thing and remove that band from those shows

I posted on the Manchester Reddit as well, I figure the more people that know the better.

To those who are saying we can't talk about the album anymore, who is stopping you? There are allowed to be two separate sub conversations going on in a thread. It's not right to not talk about this stuff, but we can still talk about stuff involving the album as it comes up.

Came here to talk about The Moth announcement from this morning. What the hell happened in the last 5+ pages of this thread? All I was able to decipher was that a member of Surfers Blood had a domestic violence situation back in 2012, and we are all pissed off now because they are playing 3 shows with MO during their Fall tour?
