It all feels out of place bc it's a horribly sequenced record

God, that fucking sucks. The Blind Hole was so good.

I had just relistened to it a few weeks ago for the first time in a year or two and definitely felt the same way. Just doesn't seem to know what kind of album it wants to be

Simple Math is my second favourite Manchester Orchestra album to be honest. METN is obviously my favourite though.

I couldn't get into Cope at all.

I've never had a problem with the sequencing on Simple Math, but I guess I'm just not hearing what others are hearing. Which is fine.

I think almost all the songs are great, but none of them belong on the same album haha

Well, I think Pensacola is much more upbeat compared to the rest of the album. Mighty and Virgin kinda feel out of place as to only two "aggressive/heavy" songs on the album. I think the last four tracks are all softer and more reserved compared to most of the album before it, which can make it a snooze at times for me. I really do think it's sequenced oddly.

i think the songwriting is insanely lackluster on that album, it really bores me and the songs where they try to go big or go home ("virgin") fall flat in an almost epic fashion.

Yes, I also agree with that. The only songs that really made a strong impact on me are Pensacola and Apprehenion. The production could be better. Makes songs like Mighty, April Fool, and Virgin fall flat. Flat has always been a word I used to describe Simple Math for a while now.

I mean I love that song, but there are definitely other Eagles songs I love more out there ("Take It To The Limit", "Already Gone", and "One Of These Nights" come to mind.)

I was the same for the longest time. Then my ex decided to hate that song. So now I love it.

It's certainly faded over the last few years but part of me will always enjoy shit radio rock or cock rock or whatever kids calls it these days like Crossfade about once a month for a half hour.

I have a random mix on my laptop of this type of music that I'll throw on when cleaning or just being super lazy. Noise that's not bothersome and that I don't have to pay attention to nor takes my attention away from what I'm doing but gets old fast (and faster as the years go on)
