Brian said it himself in an interview. If there's one song to summarize Gaslight Anthem, it'd be '59 Sound. I agree.

45 shares some similar qualities so I could see why someone would say something like that or Great Expectations.

Oh I meant '59 Sound is the quintessential Gaslight album. But the song itself is also a good choice for song.

I'm just dropping in here to show some appreciation for SeƱor And The Queen, don't mind me.

What's the consensus on this cover? I've always really enjoyed it, and I definitely don't think it touches the original, but I give Brian and Ian props for doing something really strange with it. I just never really see it get discussed at all, maybe that's for a reason.

Just caught up on this thread and just throwing out there that I love Desire, Too Much Blood and Keepsake. In fact I'd say Handwritten is front to back my favourite TGA album.

Still need to get into Get Hurt though. Saving that for this Autumn and hoping it really gets me.

The '59 Sound is finally clicking today and boy... my younger self was a fool.

Nearly teared up at the title track.

Wherefore Art Thou, Elvis? is the most Gaslight Anthem of all GA songs with the most GA song title of all GA song titles and is also the best GA song written by the band Gaslight Anthem

That's dope! What's weird is that I've had all of these albums for years now, but really only liked Handwritten until now.

Always like the title track of American Slang.

Couple tracks in and I know this is a bold claim, but this is definitely their most "Jersey" album, right?

That's easily one of my favourite Gaslight songs. I used to listen to that album whilst walking around the city at night.

It's great to have you discovering all of this music now because it's reminding me how much I love this band.

I really enjoyed American Slang! It's funny how my opinion of the albums after are starting to change now that they are in context with the rest of the band's output.

Listening to Handwritten this morning, for example, I realized that the album is great, but it's a shame it doesn't get dynamic until the last two songs.

American Slang is definitely the most Jersey album. Handwritten is purely a California album. Get Hurt is a Jersey album from the perspective of someone who left, came back, and can't find the same feeling as before. The '59 Sound is perfect.

It's amazing how much thematically darker Get Hurt is. Also easily has some of the band's worst songs. I hate Ain't That A Shame so much.
