Clear penalty but the VAR does nothing to overturn the decision...

The ref doesn't have to listen to the VAR ref if he doesn't want to. And if he doesn't signal for them, he'll never know.

Whats the point of the VAR then? It should be used for exactly these types of situations.

A predetermined list of things were established for it to be used for because people were scared it would ruin the flow of the game. Don't restrict the technology and then it would be found, I'd reckon. But...you've been so against it from the start you'll find literally any fault in it you can.

Every City fan watching Bravo right now...

Never thought I would be saying this but:
    That was fantastic from Bravo.

That said, all three of Portugal's penalties were terrible, and watching them, I can't help but feel that they are an incredibly average team with one amazing player.

Talk of us getting both Lemar and Lacazette, with Ornstein also saying Sanchez may sign a new contract if we show ambition (and I think this would count). If this was true, our team next year could be the best we've had for a long time. I'd still say we need a central midfielder as Ramsey and Xhaka can be inconsistent, and Cazorla and Wilshere are injury prone.

    --------------- Chech -----------------
    ------Holding - Koscielny - Mustafi -------
Bellerin -- Ramsey -----Xhaka ---- Kolasinac
    --------- Ozil -------- Lemar -----------
    --------------- Alexis ------------------

Refs are massively screwing over Cincinnati tonight.

Cincy's keeper was absurd tonight. Deserved performance in the shootout.

That hildebrandt dude just had the game of his life. Hats off

  12. Cincinnati game was awesome. Hildebrandt was spectacular.

I know FIFA rankings aren't exactly the best metric, but the fact Chile can win the confed cup on the back of back-to-back Copas and not be ranked in the top 3, let alone the clear 1, in the world seems absurd. I know qualifying has a lot to do with rankings, but yeah.

I was trying to describe myself to someone

Does the Confed cup actually get treated the same as competitive games in terms of rankings?

Also, the rankings haven't been updated since first of June. Check back at the end of next week. They're already fourth, so might move up.

Yeah. It's considered a premier FIFA competition. And if I read correctly, weights heavier than the Copa.

I think if Germany reaches the final, even if they lose to Chile, they stay ahead of them. You can play around with results on the FIFA website to predict ranking.

I mean, they should 100% be ranked as the second best team in the world at this point. Seems mad to me that anyone would think the top 3 isn't Germany, Chile, France (maybe Portugal since they won the euros).

I get how Argentina, as consecutive three-year finalists are in the top 3. I don't get how Brazil got into first without winning a single tournament since 2009. I know it's rolling averages, but do WCQs really count that much more than reaching a final?

Chile, Germany, and Argentina would be a good top three. Brazil, France, and Portugal make sense after that, I suppose. Colombia is in the top 5 now, and I agree with them being in the mix. Belgium, Switzerland, and Spain are the other teams in the top 10. Hard to argue with that group of ten, though I think Portugal and Switzerland seem the oddest men out.

Whoever said yesterday in here that Portugal are an average team with one world class player got it right. Switzerland (and Wales at 12) really have figured out the best way to game the ranking system + consistent tournament performances, as I'd think they're both below Portugal's level but are hanging around.

Portugal won the Euro's last year so it makes sense for them to be in the top 10.

    Totally agree.

I believe Switzerland (might have been another team, been a while) gamed the ranking system before the Euro draw to give them a #1 seed. They avoided playing friendlies so not to lose points, it worked well for them for the draw and proved how bad the rankings are designed.

A Germany-Mexico semifinal being on FS2 while geriatric golfers get FS1 is a perfect microcosm of why I didn't want Fox to get the World Cup coverage for the next two cycles.

Idk about y'all but it's really annoying me that our commentators are ignoring the fact this is a second string Germany squad.
