it's more of the way you said it, there's definitely an insinuation that the genre of rap was surprising for you to like, rather than just saying "who would have thought vince would be my number one" you made it a blanket statement about rap music

i see what you're saying but yeah, the phrasing was odd

    what a waste of wood

I didn't think it was a bad thing to lean more towards some genres over others. My bad y'all.

I've paid to see Vince more than once. Really wasn't trying to generalize an entire genre. Was just honestly shocked how immediately hit me.

Totally fine to lean toward certain genres I just would never say it's shocking for any one genre to top a list

    The rivalry is back on

I mean, I would be shocked if a non-indie rock album topped this site's year end list. That doesn't make it a bad thing if it happens.

Yeah it's actually a great thing. I'm really not sure where I implied the opposite but I'm sorry if I did.

    I don't think you did, you're good.

I was saying that more in support of what you were saying/to contradict the "I don't think it should be shocking for a genre to top a list" mindset.

A whole sites collective list and a persons individual list are wildly different concepts in just about every way

Tbh I openly admitted that I only listened to rap casually and was so excited that this captivated me with its fusion of dance (a genre I'm well versed in) and rap (a genre I'm not) and I don't think there was anything other than that same appreciation for something to unexpectedly hook them in @zmtr's post

I see their avy is blank and hope they didn't leave the site solely because of that?

Yeah I wasn't shitting on them or anything and I remember saying something very similar in 2011 when my top albums started shifting genres and hip hop r&b and electronic were all in my favorites for the first time. It's just not something I would say now since I listen to p much everything and every genre has a fair shot at topping by my list but I know what they meant

Of course I see where you were coming from - it's the same offence I take when someone is surprised they like a house producer or something haha. You didn't say anything remotely out of line which is why I'm hoping that user wouldn't leave as a result of some gentle (warranted) criticism

    I love this so much

Some parts remind me a lot of early Björk which might be a weird comparison but I think it's mostly from the club/house/electronic influence from the beats

(I also have little fluency in those genres so feel free to disregard what I said lol)

This is all I've been listening to the past few days, really phenomenal. A couple thoughts I had while listening: the beat on Party People reminds of Jlin's new album a little bit, the Kilo's features are excellent, and I think I want to hear Vince over some Jamie xx production
