You guys are nuts. Young and Menace was so different that you didn't like it, and now this is too safe. The only Fall Out Boy you like anymore is the one on the Simpsons.

Here are my initial thoughts I posted in the news posting, but that thread is currently dead and this one is moving so I'll cross post it.

    Early thoughts:

•College football is gonna eat this up the same way they did Centuries. Get ready.

•I better not hear anyone complaining about how bored Andy must be on this song. He's killing it, for real. #ThisIsJam

•The vibe of the intro melody/verse is very Y&M. Interesting that it's track 1 and 2 on the album. Wonder if that's intentional the same way What A Catch calls back previous songs, or Save Rock and Roll does too.

•The outro melody Patrick is singing is very Alessia Cara.

•Kept waiting for the last note of the lead guitar riff to finish the melody of "It's Gonna Be Me". (Dah nuh na na na nuh).

    •Rapping Patrick is awesome.

•Fall Out Bridges are some of my favorite parts of their songs. Kind of bummed that the bridge was just vamping of the chorus. Expected it to get huge(r), but I guess with a chorus like that, and the keychange on the last go-round, you can't really get much bigger because you're already at the ceiling.

•Catchy like crazy, in an "it's gonna get annoying how much radio plays this" kind of way.

I didn't realize I enjoyed Paramore's "Ain't It Fun" until like a year after the goddamn radio finally stopped playing it on a constant loop for three straight months. Hopefully the same thing doesn't happen to this song lol

Agreed. That's how I am with Centuries. Years later, removed from the radio and College Game Day, I turn up the volume when it comes up on shuffle.

Fortunately I never had that phase with Centuries. The pros of not watching college sports at all haha

I've already kind of decided that this album will be FOB's last chance for me, and this song is unfortunately just okay. I enjoyed it enough but it just sounds like another song from the last two albums. While I didn't like Young and Menace I at least appreciated what they were trying to do with it and looked forward to more weird experimental pop, I thought that was the direction they were going in. It's weird, Champions is definitely better than Young and Menace but I actually hope we get more songs like Y&M than Champions if that makes sense

its possible for both songs to be bad for different reasons, you know. its not that young and a menace is too different, its just that it sucks. its not that this is too samey, its just that it sucks.

Ok this isn't as bad as I was expecting based on these responses. Better than Y+M for sure, and way better than Centuries.

Or maybe people are allowed to dislike two different bad songs for two different reasons?

Wouldn't be surprised if this album ends up like FAD in terms of divisiveness.

The reason I dislike both singles isn't because either one is 'too different or 'too safe', it's because they just aren't great songs.

You can anything you want, it's your life bruh. It just seems like most people either don't know what they want when it comes this band, or can't communicate what they actually are feeling.

    It's like this:
"Mom, I wish dad would drop me off at school from now on instead of you."
    <gets your way>
"Dad, why doesn't mom drop me off at school anymore?"

It's confusing. If you don't like the songs for other reasons than too different/too samey, communicate your actual reasons better and people will understand better.

Much better than the last song, but still not great. It's a solid 5/10 song but it does arrest my fears that they have gone totally off the deep end. Hopefully there's still one or two songs on the album that are better than this cause otherwise I'm really not going to dig the album.

    God, a million times this.

People didn't just hate Young and Menace cause it was different. They hated it because it's a genuinely bad song.

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH DAMN this is bad.
And not in the Young and Menace way, which is a song I don't like but actually appreciate for being "out there". Patrick sounds bored here. Verses are like the ones from Centuries without any attempt at being fun. So I might hate this even more than Centuries lol

Centuries (and My Songs) annoyed me. That's probably not a popular opinion, but I just never felt like they were strong songs. I like this though.

I dare you to show me one person who has complained in here that this new song is "too samey." And no, saying it reminds them of Centuries doesn't count.

Why doesn't saying it sounds like Centuries count? That was the first song we heard off their last new album and it was played all over sports.
