Both "Pure Heroine" and this are pretty great for different reasons. PH is a fantastic portrait of a teenager on the verge of adulthood, while "Melodrama" really captures the inner frustrations/joys/pains of being a young adult. Both have great production and zero fat.

The Louvre, Liability, Loveless, Supercuts and Perfect Places are the best songs here in some order.

I get such big Broken Social Scene vibes from Loveless. Maybe it reminds me a little of "Anthems.." or at least something about it.

Hmmm I'm super tempted to buy a ticket for this because I'm really enjoying the album, but after the $$ I just spent on Harry Styles, I think I'll hold off until day-of-show tickets get released.

Man, totally the same. Got this and the new Royal Blood record on the same day, but Royal Blood is barely getting a look in. Had this on repeat and still finding new things on it.

What a fucking record. My AOTY so far definitely. Got to say, I was sceptical about the change in style beforehand, and Green Light didn't particularly click straight away, but wow.

Debating trying to get tickets to see her in Manchester, but no one to go with and like 3 hours away so would need a hotel too...

Holy shit, how much are fees in the US?! Over here, the tickets are £38.50 (I think) and fees are £2.50 per ticket...

Fees for the tickets I was looking at were $20 on top of the $99 ticket

"Bet you rue the day you kissed a writer in the dark. Now she's gonna play and sing and lock you in her heart."

Are the lyrics on this album some of the best to ever hit mainstream pop or am I still on the post-album release high?

Yes to the BSS vibes. Thought the same thing earlier today when I was listening. Hard Feelings is my personal favourite. The instrumental break towards the end is my favourite thing in a song all year.

I haven't heard this yet but I have been keeping up with this thread and the amount of bad takes on Pure Heroine and Royals is pretty impressive

The "Royals" hate is banana town. That song was so fresh when it hit Radio that late summer. Still a great song. People forget this.

I've been anazlying the tune trying to balance the good and the bad and there's just so much good.

I remember when it came out (pre me hearing it, I don't listen to radio), reading lyrics outside of the subject matter, the fact that she was a breakout 16 year old pop star, I assumed it was garbage. When I finally heard the song I was shocked and amazed at how great it was.

I heard Tennis Courts a few weeks before she blew up because of something I read in some German indie magazine and it blew my mind. I think Pure Heroine is one of the best pop albums of the decade easily. It still is incredibly unique and fresh even though it is also referential in parts. I hear pop, I hear emo, I hear southern rap, but instead of creating a mess it mashes together into something that feels whole, relevant and current. It's good in the same way a good rap album is good.

    I don't like Melodrama.

My friends and I are so hyped up on this album that we decided to splurge on floor seats for the tour--I can't wait!

I feel like this is significantly less derivative than ph (not that that was, but still)

I'm still on the Royals train and PH is cool but I do like this quite a bit more as an album than PH. And why not, isn't it always the best when artists actually grow and get better further in their careers?

Yeah I've gone back and listened to PH a couple of times over the last day, and the growth is incredible. There's a few songs on there that I'd put above some on Melodrama (Royals, Tennis Court, Glory & Gore) but on the whole I think Melodrama is sitting more comfortably with me at the minute.
