    Fight the long defeat.

Has anyone been to the first few shows with Rise Against/Deftones? Kicking around buying a ticket, but I'm not sure if it's worth it if Thrice is my primary interest on the bill.

Heading to tomorrow night's show with very little interest in the other two bands... sucks, because these big venue shows are so pricey, but what if they go on hiatus again?? I can't risk it man. I can post a setlist tomorrow after for anyone interested.

Here's their setlist from last night. Definitely one of their heavier/more aggressive sets overall (appropriate for the tour) and almost half was from TBEITBN.

Hurricane, Silhouette, Of Dust and Nations, Black Honey, Yellow Belly, The Long Defeat, The Window, The Earth Will Shake

It's not a bad supporting setlist but I really wish they would mix up the tracks they play from TAITA and Vheissu. I'm tired of not hearing some of the deep cuts like Abolition of Man and Stand and Feel Your Worth from those albums.

Agreed! It's always great hearing a couple of the tunes they played, like the closer, but all in all it just made me hungry for their next headlining tour to hear some more interesting songs. I also feel like TAI deserves more love.

They would never play those songs in a support slot on tour with bands that have mainstream success like Deftones and Rise Against. They're obviously going to play the more popular songs. Only one I'm actually suprised that they're playing is The Window

I'm going in 2 weeks. Super excited to see Thrice/Deftones together again.

Has Thrice ever been a popular mainstream band? If we're using mainstream success as the metric, why aren't they playing Stare at the Sun or Image of the Invisible? Tracks that were actually singles from those albums. The songs they played are definitely fan favorites, but again, I'd still like to see them mix it up.

I also get that I'm complaining about 9 song support setlist and should probably have bigger fish to fry. Thrice' s set choices are also a lot better than RA's. Oof.

When they opened for Rise Against and Alkaline trio back in 2006 they played Bloodclots, Melting Point of Wax, Firebreather, Messenger and Betrayal is a Symptom. I was super surprised.

I get why at this point they aren't reaching back too much and going crazy, but you'd think with high energy bands like Deftones and RA, they would bring a little bit more faster songs to the set.

Honestly, that's a perfect set for them opening this tour. This tour is about gaining new fans, especially with how much radio-play they've been getting as of late. It's a very smart setlist by them.

I meant that with bands like Deftones and Rise Against who have mainstream success, Thrice is going to try to play more of their hits or more accessible songs to the crowd they're playing in front of. With the new album only a year old, it doesn't surprise me that they're leanjng heavily on it. As for their older albums, it also doesn't surprise me that they're playing their hits still. I know those songs weren't singles from those albums, but they've absolutely been staples in their live sets probably since those albums were released. I hope those songs are always a part of their setlist and I am very okay with seeing those songs over Stare At The Sun or Image Of The Invisble.

    hmmm

These sort of tours don't suit hardcore fans of those bands. I've seen criticism of literally everyone's setlist so I think you sort of have to put up with it.

Only thing about their set that I wish was different is the lack of anything from Beggars. In Exile or At The Last would have been a cool goodie to see over Yellow Belly. Also kinda surprised at no Death From Above now that I think about it
Still a really good set though and it works for this tour

Yeah, exactly. After their set, I overheard really positive buzz from some of the RA/Deftones fans in the audience who hadn't listened to Thrice before.

yeah that setlist makes sense, TBEITBN has some great hooks combined with some heaviness so that slots in perfectly with RA and Deftones, the other songs also fit real well as far as being ear-catching and probably make for a fun live show. Tours like this arent really about deep cuts or anything, just trying to convert RA/Deftones fans into Thrice fans and vice-versa.

I wasn't complaining about the focus on the new album at all. I get that. Ultimately, we're arguing over semantics, and Thrice will probably pull out a hell of a set next time they do a headliner.

Looks like they played Call It In The Air on a off day headliner. I'm so jealous

Might sub some more alchemy for the MM stuff but that's just being petty

I think The Long Defeat would work well to close out a set, or at least the main set.
