American Slang is pretty comfortably Fallon's second best record, imo.

Would you say '59 or Elsie is his best?

I'd put American Slang probably somewhere like 5th in the grand scheme of Fallon stuff. Plenty of his releases hit home harder for me personally.

    I think God's a painter

american slang is a sunset fall album for me. maybe it's cus that's the most nostalgic time of year for me.

handwritten is also a fall album for me, tho most people would categorize it as a summer record (also works for me as a nighttime summer record).

the '59 sound is nighttime summer.

The 59 Sound. As much as I love Elsie, it's probably fourth or fifth for me.

    Regular

    1) 59 Sound
    2) American Slang
    3) Painkillers
    4) Elsie

My top four. Sink or Swim, Handwritten and Get Hurt are my bottom three but not sure in what order. SoS because of the production or lack thereof, Handwritten and Get Hurt because the songwriting dipped in quality for me.

Handwritten is my number three. There are some pretty glaring flaws to that record, but it means a lot to me because of where I was in my life when it came out.

I heard Here Comes Your Man in a service station this weekend (which was weird), reminded me I haven't listened to Handwritten in a while.

My top 5 Fallon would be

    1) 59 Sound
    2) Americans Slang
    3) Senior
    4) SOS
    5) Elsie

This is true, but Handwritten is their best.

Second best for me. I think it gets ranked so high for me because the strong songs are SO strong(Mae, National Anthem)

Yep, agreed. It also just has more songs that I like than any other Fallon album.

Sink or Swim is their worst by a wide margin, but The 59 Sound is worse than the other three by a pretty wide margin

Probably has to do with when you got into them, I heard Handwritten first

Wow. There are some fun hot takes in this thread. Here's my top 5 rankings for Fallon-related projects:

    1) The '59 Sound
    2) Sink or Swim
    3) Elsie
    4) American Slang
    5) Painkillers

Handwritten was lackluster. Get Hurt was an abomination comparatively.

Get Hurt is their "worst" album, for sure. It's not always my least favorite, but it's their least coherent, their least thought out, and their least committed.

I did get into them during the '59 Sound. However, putting Get Hurt before that no matter when you got into them is unfathomable!

  23. I would put it above SOS, just because that album feels like a band trying to figure out who they want to be.
