RIP thinking outside the capitalist mode of socioeconomic organization. The entrepreneurial "you can start own business/make your own product" mindset is, IMO, a massive problem in building public consciousness about tackling the root of society's problems that make dumb entprenurialism so attractive. For example, developing carbon capture storage technology rather than confronting the centrality of fossil fuels and GHG emissions as a byproduct of satiating the growth imperative of capitalist firms.

That was kind of a rant but this is something that I think about all the time and is one of my biggest pet peeves. Shark Tank is ALWAYS on in my house

Between Eichenwald and Corbyn, I'm not sure that the internet will top yesterday. I'm a little sad about that.

My biggest issue with Trump base is their pride in ignorance. That instinct and luck will produce the results they want, and if it doesn't, there's always someone to blame. Something is just wrong with how they were raised, I can't think of any other explanation.

  6. Some weird polling out there.

  9. I, obviously given my job, disagree. I think the idea you have to be unhealthy, and do things like not see your kids, or the VC dismissal of "lifestyle businesses," and start-up culture is a very big problem ... I do not think the entrepreneurial mindset is.

I definitely agree with you there, sorry that I didn't clarify enough in my original post. The entrepreneurial mindset as you talk about with those examples is indeed important. I suppose I'm talking on a much broader scale, in that society loves to talk about ways to technofix our way out of crises in the environment and other sectors, as if we can just constantly innovate our way out of these problems rather than first and foremost take a reflexive look at what drove these crises and how we should confront them. That is what I'm critiquing here.

It's easy to do when all those groups don't count as "people" at all to them.

Searching that hashtag and I can't tell what the hell is "event" even is or was ...

Totally random, but I had this thought when I couldn't sleep last night ... why does no one ask politicians about reparations anymore?

Someone asked Bernie about it last year during the primary, I believe. Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote about his interactions with Obama about it. Basically, they don't think it is politically possible, so there's no need to bring it up. I, personally, would love to see more politicians grilled about the debt this country's wealth owes to oppressed people, particularly black slaves.

Has the US ever paid any reparations at all for this? Curious. I think I know the answer.

If no reparations, then how about just the redistribution of wealth?
