I'd love to see people like that challenge moderate Dems in heavy Dem districts/states in primaries....but I haven't heard much noise about any one like that yet, sadly.

  3. The hype and pressure on Corbyn feels like it can only burst and drop given the results last night. Like if he doesn't deliver with the expectations? I worry about that.

  4. Kamala Harris I think is the closest so far to that IMO.

The series definitely seemed to indicate that...the Waitrose group of kids was seen as hoity toity by another group of kids that holed up in a Morrisons lol

    She's a neoliberal, I assume lol...aka she's not, at minimum, a democratic socialist

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Really Labour has no option to implement policy unless they get permission for a minority government over May. So in the short time between now and the inevitable next early election, it's just more time for the conservatives to damage themselves even more. When Labour is in power, sure, Corbyn may fall on his face. But we aren't there yet, and actually if another election is held before the end of the year, that's nothing but good news.

  8. Heh. Isn't your first part the argument against Bernie? How come he couldn't even beat Clinton?

    Just sayin.

The problem with that is the old Dems have money. It's hard enough getting people to vote in small elections. Nobody votes for the 28 year old kid they've never heard of against the 50 year old man whose name they've known for years and has a D next to their name.

Edit: I'm in a blue county in a blue state.

I know this is the nitpickiest thing in the world but it annoys me that he gets the defcon system backwards. Haha

That has to be Charlie Higson's series right? Can't remember the name of the books but that definitely sounds familiar haha.

Both senators in my state, according to the graphs that track that shit. MA for the win.

  15. You mean the argument that you've made many times against Bernie? Yeah. Exactly. But you still think a "better candidate" (still no idea who) would've done better?

  16. I think there's a hypothetical candidate that could do better in our election and coulda done better in the UK. I don't know "who" for sure in either case, just that the weaknesses were apparent. (And narrow defeats indicative.)

Obama had to overcome racism and "inexperience" to win, she'd have the added hurtle of sexism too...would be interesting. She'd be super exciting for the base and young voters, at the very least. But I wonder how many old whites in Michigan would be able to be sold on Republican talking points like "See what happens when you elect someone who's only a first term senator?! you get OBAMA!"....And they would completely ignore that they had just voted for Donald Trump 4 years prior lol

Yes! That would be the one! The Enemy was the first book, and I think it gets called The Enemy series. It was a little too "Young" and not enough "adult" for me but I still enjoyed it a good amount. I love anything that's zombies even though they were technically zombies...and the series started getting into weird explanations and cures and etc that I always tend to be wary of in zombie lit, but still, entertaining. The books over here came with maps of london showing where the different charactars are in that book and stuff and I'm a sucker for that.

  18. Oh, so a made up perfect candidate would do better than a real person. Very valuable analysis

Good thread on centrism, authoritarianism, and norms as a political tool:

All 3 of those characters die to defeat evil. Poor Corbyn.

  21. Yes? I'm talking about hypotheticals and assumptions and guesses and ideas and predictions here about politics and unknowns. Pretty much half of what we do. I'm not providing such wonderful "analysis" as repeating "Bernie Woulda Won" a billion times, I know, but come on, I figured that was obvious.

  22. Obi Wan can never did how dare you.

(I'm tired of voting for old white dudes to be honest tho.)

I'm looking forward to the wisdom of blue force version of Corbyn, as long as they don't replace him with Hayden Christensen.

God, Alec Guinness was great. Now I want to watch The Ladykillers and The Lavender Hill Mob again.
