People complaining about slow songs in a set list will always be strange to me. If you're looking for "energy" in a set, go watch a pop punk band. This is addressed to the general complaint about slower songs live, not about the specifics in this thread.

Not about this thread, just posted in this thread. Ha. It's cool tho.

Personally, it's their slower stuff that I dig the most, outside of "Sex". I just don't think COH works that well outside of the album.

The album is a masterpiece imo

  4. It is filled solid with pretty good songs.

    I kind of kid.

I just like the first album much more.

i think this album sets out to do everything the first one set out do in a much, much better and more interesting way. everything about it is executed more precisely, everything is more fine tuned to perfection, and its not as though they cut the fat by any stretch considering its still a sprawling record, they just honed their songwriting skills and came up with the best batch of songs they have ever written. the songwriting and production techniques on display throughout the record one up everything from the debut, and the complete package and aesthetic they chased here is done better than what they went for on the debut. and that's saying something because few bands are as fully formed as they were on debut albums. but, you know them, they had to go out and one up themselves. and id say they did.

This album does such an incredible job at sucking you into the mood and atmosphere. I find myself loving pretty much every single track on here whether I'm jumping around to particular tracks or I'm listening to it from front to back. How To Draw is really something too. I honestly still get chills when I listen to particular songs on this album and there have been times where I felt like I was breaking down inside and on the verge of outside. These guys did a phenomenal job at crafting an album that is both beautiful and heartbreaking in a way that I've never heard before.

The songs I return to the most are "A Change of Heart", "If I Believe You" and "Somebody Else".

The stretch of songs from If I Believe You to Somebody Else really leaves me gutted by the time Loving Someone is on. What a fucking trip.

As much as I think this album eclipses the first in every single way and I think it makes that album seem weaker than I thought it was in comparison, I still think that's a great album.

i really never thought theyd top writing a near-perfect song again like they did with "sex" and "settle down," by far my two favorites on the debut, and yet they did it with "somebody else" and "paris," my easy two favorites here and what i would call without hesitation the two best songs they've ever written. they will go down as two of my favorite songs of all time.

I want to live in Paris. The song, that is. Well I guess the city too but mostly the song.

"Sex" is still my favourite song of theirs but otherwise I agree with demo.

I don't think this album is any better than the debut. There are songs on here as good as the best songs on the debut though, for sure. In all honesty, I enjoy their first album more from front to back than I do this. Both are really good albums, I just think the middle section from track 7 to 12 is the weakest section on either of their albums (apart from "Somebody Else", that's one of my favourite tracks they've done).

The middle section is better than any part of the debut. I think almost any string of songs on here is better than almost any string of songs on the debut, haha.

I think this album is way better lyrically, has way better production, is more diverse, takes more risks, more interesting topics and better songs for the most part. Even the version of "Sex" on the debut, which is the only thing that album has over this one, is an inferior version.

I think tracks 7-12 (or I guess the middle portion) are easily the best sections of this album and the debut.

The strongest section of this album for me is from tracks 2-6. I also love "Somebody Else", "The Sound" and "Paris".

Edit: This should've been the tracklisting. 45 minutes in total.

    1. Love Me
    2. Ugh!
    3. A Change of Heart
    4. She's American
    5. If I Believe You
    6. Somebody Else
    7. Loving Someone
    8. The Sound
    9. Paris
    10. She Lays Down

I love every second of this album. I think this is one of the most consistent albums I've ever listened to. The difference between my favourite and least favourite isn't that much at all which is the complete opposite from the debut and the EPs.

  22. Their debut was supposed to be an album full of songs that could be singles.
Their follow up was supposed to be a more cohesive album as a whole.

    They succeeded.

But I just happen to enjoy the album full of catchy singles more.

I think they did the atmospheric, spacey sound much more effectively on their EPs with songs like "Haunt // Bed", "Intro/Set 3" and "Fallingforyou". As for instrumentals, their best one is still "HNSCC".

I really disagree that this album is a huge leap in quality from their old stuff. I still enjoy it though, of course.
