No, it does not say that. A single payer system is a policy we'd like them to pass. And it's a policy spent significant political capital on twice to try and get passed when they had the presidency and large majorities. Both efforts failed, but both also resulted in important reforms and increases in the social safety net as far as health care is concerned for poorer Americans. Those don't happen with Republicans---at least, Republicans in their current form.

He really did. This has been one of the most hilarious and interesting internet days in a while. This tops Josh from Talking Points post about the behaviour of Angela and Strawberry.

  5. I should be doing other work and I get pulled back into it. Haha, it's the weirdest thing of just saying the wrong thing and doubling down and I don't even understand. It's so weird and like the worst "lie" .... I almost believe him. If that makes sense.

So what you're saying is they aren't not doing their jobs accidentally but consciously? Because they're waiting for the right time to do this to get it passed?

No, I'm saying their job specifically isn't to pass a single payer system. Their job is to govern, hopefully as far left as possible. The party is by nature a big tent party with a moderate section--it's the onyl way they ever have majorities, because there both aren't enough far left wingers in the country and the left is never as organized and one track minded as the far right is. So some moderates in the party may not want to vocalize support for single payer, but that certainly hasn't been the party's position, as evidenced by their attempts to pass said single payer.

If this is the strategy you want to pursue, go for it. I think it is wrong as evidenced by the experience of the blue dog democrats and the ACA, which didn't go far enough. As such, I'm not going to support it in any way whatsoever. I will contribute my efforts elsewhere. This isn't a purity test, it is about actually building a left-wing that can wield power. Candidates like Osoff actually impede progress on a whole host of issues. They reinforce the idea that there is a middle ground, where sensible democrats and republicans can meet. There isn't and there never will be.

Like, you think someone who has made all of this up has to be telling the truth? I get that. The only thing I can think of for his behaviour is, he thinks far too much of himself and thinks that him admitting to his proclivities will damage Journalism.

once there is a left-wing that can wield power I'll be there. I'd rather be there and I will continue to support that to happen. but in Georgia 6 there is no chance that a leftist/left wing candidate can win. the problem is that the middle part of america house districts specifically are deep red rural areas with large swaths of empty land mixed in with white voters that vote every election for the republican with or without doing any research on the actual candidate. leftists will not win there any time soon. if I can get a democratic candidate that agrees about 80% with the platform that I agree with in a district that has been deep red for 40+ years I'll call that progress. I'll work to bring him over to the other 20% or whatever that we need but I believe that 80% agreement is better than 0% from the other side.

    I get called a socialist elsewhere....here I'm a neoliberal.

I'm sure I'd win in Georgia 06 if I ran as a social democrat!

Yes, changing the political terrain is hard work. It isn't automatic. The answer isn't to tack to the right, it's to make it credible. As I said, I disagree, but do whatever it is that you want. There's no longer any need to continue this conversation.

If I can get a Democrat to agree with 80 percent of what I think I'd be head over heels.

Georgia 6 being won by a Democrat would be a tack to the left.

he's not tracking to the right, he's trying to represent his district. for his district he's a radical leftist, maybe if he wins and actually does some good legislatively it will scare people less to vote more for blue candidates than red. I hope that he personally supports single payer and I hope that if it ever comes to a vote in the near future he will sign on with it. but for now he wants to win and this is the only way to do that.

also changing the political terrain is hard work it's not going to happen overnight, it's not going to start in georgia and I don't believe we can wait for the leftists to get it together to actually win something, we need to take what we can get in terms of progressiveness in the electorate. and push them left once they are in there or replace them with actual progressives when the time comes that we are able to.
