it's a little funny seeing the leftists in this thread constantly lectured on political strategy when the democrats have lost, what like, ~1000 seats across all levels of government over the last several years all on their own. And a good portion of us have done the whole lesser evil voting thing up until this last election and Democrats are still more likely to compromise with the GOP on their healthcare bill than they are to reach left to accept single payer as a platform position.

That's what happens when your rabid base is riled up and energized and, in many cases, were still willing to vote for Republicans who didn't check all their marks because, as far as they were concerned, Republicans were still better than Democrats, even if they weren't Tea Party Republicans.

And it worked beautifully as far as winning elections is concerned. Governing...heh, not so much. But that's because half of them don't think governing should even be a thing.

  18. This lawyer looks exactly like you would think this lawyer would look.

Not even 150 days in and your creepy lawyer needs to hold a press conference. So tired of winning.

That's a failed political strategy by the Democrats, then, for not being able to combat that. I don't feel bad for Democrats for this and it's their own fault that they couldn't quell the tea party swell. It was not something that was unavoidable.

"As far as they were concerned, Republicans were still better than Democrats" Fine, you're not winning them over. Forget them. Voter turnout in 2010 was like what, ~40? They had ~60% the the nonvoters population that they could have reached out to and got some portion of those people registered and energized and to vote. But they couldn't even do that, basic outreach and voter turnout.

I agree with most of this, none of it has anything to do with being willing to vote for someone who doesn't believe all the same things you believe. The Tea Party right showed a willingness to do that throughout Obama's term. Republicans were good enough, as long as they weren't Democrats. And they tried primarying mainstream Republicans in states that were more purple than red (or even blue states) and a lot of those candidates got crushed in the general. They learned that it's easier to get a regular Republican elected and then push them right.

Have been sitting on this gif so as to not waste it and today presented itself perfectly imo.

  22. Dem registration numbers have actually been pretty good. The whole voter suppression thing ... less good. The whole "probably turning out Trump voters instead" thing with the data operation to find low propensity voters ... less good.

% of voting population is also a tad misleading, cause you need the % to go up in basically 4 states ... and hope they're your voters ... because getting 80% in Oregon or California doesn't matter.

I had to see a lawyer yesterday to pick up a check. He looked like a short porn star from the '70's.
