Wasn't going to post anything about this because it's mostly speculation but now that this got published I figured I should. Some people are saying that it could be a death in the family but in the past US Soccer has specifically stated family deaths as reasons for players withdrawing from rosters.

I honestly believe that the reason she withdrew is because she doesn't want to wear these jerseys or support LGBT people in any way. She's never done anything to say she regrets the tweets she made or that she's changed her views (plus a recent tweet by her mom suggests she still feels the same way) so I'm not going to give her the benefit of the doubt. Her club's team first game back from this FIFA break is their Pride Night so I'll be interested to see if she doesn't participate in that as well.

Even without the homophobia, I don't know why Ellis keeps insisting on calling her up. She's decent in the NWSL but can't translate it to the international stage with her previous call ups. Plus she did this once.

I think it's more difficult in person because it's less easy to avoid men like that than online, as I get surrounded by them in my day to day activities.

Online I don't have this self shame once I come across a hypermasculine person. I'll be able to have a friendly conversation, especially if it goes well. If it doesn't, I don't hesitate to point out what bothers me in that person's behavior. In person, it gets trickier because of my self esteem and body image issues. I don't know if I'm being clear sorry ^^'

 

I'm sorry for taking so much time to respond, and for not having much to add to your points. Maybe it's my anxiety issues overwhelming me, but I felt like I wasn't educated enough to respond, tho I put a lot of thought and agree with everything you say.

About my new identity as a non-binary person and what it makes me learn about myself, I think it is something I have to keep working on, so I can continue empowering myself. Thank you again for this post. I will think of your latest advice each time I feel hopeless or in a self sabotaging cycle.

This morning I was walking to BART in San Francisco, totally forgetting it was pride weekend. Despite having been to pride before, the fact that I unknowingly stumbled upon it and it just felt like another day in SF...I dunno, just made me realize how fortunate I was to grow up here. There are a lot of things I don't like about the Bay Area but something I have grown to appreciate is that you can pretty much be whoever the fuck you want to be and virtually no one bats an eye. It's pretty cool. I always forget that there is a whole country between me and the east coast
