It's like the ugliest anime out there. I have no idea how such a huge manga has such a bad anime adaptation.

I caught up on My Hero Academia the other day and started Mob Psycho 100 this morning. Mob Psycho has such cool art

I still want to watch Mob Psycho at some point but some of the art in episode 1 was so ugly.

  7. Hopefully we have something good to talk about in the Representation thread for once. Or it's GitS and DN all over again.

Not holding my breath that the project ends up being all that representative or even watchable. That said, Bebop is an anime I could see being not overly difficult (but probably expensive) to translate to live-action.

Hey, here's a conversation starter! Anybody here have any favorite AMVs?

Really haven't kept up with 'the form' since getting out of high school, but believe it or not, there are AMVs that aren't about Naruto or Linkin Park that are actually pretty good!

    A few favorites....

"Sharada" by Skye Sweetnam - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

    (Just always makes me happy.)

"Awakening" by Mae - 5 Centimeters per Second

"Best of You" by Foo Fighters - Every. Anime. Ever.

(Been watching a lot of YouTube critics talk about 'visual flow' lately, and whoever edited this might understand it better than any human who ever lived.)

    Any others?

i used to be really into this one hunter x hunter amv that used chevelle's "the red" and the evangelion one with "bohemian rhapsody". dont really know much else about amvs. one of my best friends used to make them though and he had a great gundam one with "pretty boy swag" that i dont think he ever put out

I could never really get into AMVs, though I've admittedly never really tried.

Right? Very, very strange. I have some mixed feelings about it.

YES. Used to watch these religiously. When I was a teenager, my friends would run around quoting the whole "my anus is bleeding! My ANUS is BLEEEEDING" part much to the confusion of everyone not "in on the joke." Have they made any recent ones? I think the last one I remember watching was 4 or maybe 5?

The best AMV I ever saw was Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal to Linkin Park's 1Stp Klosr. But now I can't find it...

    edit:
    Just kidding. It's right here.

    Scars Of Eternity

Spoilers. Pretty much uses the entire OVA.

  18. Some people's gateway anime these days are things I've never started, let alone heard of. I feel old. I haven't really followed anime in like 3-5 years. I'm going to Anime Expo for the first time this year and I'm afraid I'll have no idea what half the cosplays are. My gateway anime were Rurouni Kenshin and Dragon Ball Z on Toonami weekday afternoons. I still had some series in common with the Naruto-Bleach starter pack kids when they came around. Now, what is it? Sword Art Online? One Punch Man? Do people watch Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion as staple must-sees anymore?

All I know is people are generally super into Attack on Titan. Not sure how far it goes past that, but that's the only "modern phenomenon" anime I can think of. Sword Art Online seems pretty popular, too, though that was a lot more prevalent a few years ago. I'm still stuck on the classics - Eva, Lain, DBZ, Kenshin, the list goes on, but I've been getting pretty into some newer stuff lately, too. I'll echo everyone's thoughts on My Hero Academia - best shounen since HxH and Naruto. Seriously just fun and entertaining top-to-bottom with likeable characters and an interesting twist on an otherwise standard formula.

I'd actually be curious to find out what more current series get people into anime. Like AoT probably, but not sure what else is super popular. I still watch a lot of anime, but admittedly have no idea if what I tend to gravitate toward really has much of an audience.

I still remember getting introduced to anime through Sailor Moon and then like Akira and other older films from when Sci-Fi used to run something early on Saturdays super, super long ago.

I still think Death Note is a big one although that's pretty old at this point. AOT for sure. I know One Punch Man is big but not sure how many people are getting into anime with that.

Death Note is definitely a good call. I think Full Metal Alchemist/Brotherhood, too, though that's also pretty old at this point. I'd put Tokyo Ghoul on the list - pretty high popularity level and overall solid show, though not without its shortcomings.

I'd definitely point newcomers (that are really looking to delve into anime) to some of the less-formulaic shows. I think Erased and Re:Zero are the closest things I can think of to new modern classics. Both shows are fantastic and unique in their own ways, but really gripping overall.

I think the official AMV Hell group has been defunct for a couple years now, but they kept it going for a looooooong time! They made three more full-length ones. 6 is widely considered to have sucked, while 7 is widely seen as a return to form. (Not a lot of people like 5 either, but it grew on me!)

But they also spent years doing 'AMV Minis', basically the same idea in 5-10 minute bites. And also spent years doing 'competition' videos as well, were people would submit clips based on a prompt.

One of my favorites was the Minis Season 2 premier, where folks couldn't make a clip more than 8 seconds long!

You can find pretty much all the new stuff on the AMV Hell YouTube channel, minus AMV Hell 0 and /0, which parodied more 'adult' content, and which you download from the official website. The safest (and most famous clip) being this one...

Kinda bummed more fans haven't kept it going spiritually in a more consistent and visible way. These are always some of my favorite timewasters. Good luck falling down this rabbit hole!

Ohhh, I remember 0. That one was hilarious. Glad to know there are more I haven't seen, though!! Will have to get my old group together to watch those before the next convention or something. I've seen the first few more times than I can count. Will absolutely be checking out the Minis when I get home from work - comedy AMVs seem to get it right more often than any other, haha.
