Haha weird enough Chaos and Clothes is one of my favorites.

    1. Vampires
    2. Chaos and Clothes
    3. Last of My Kind
    4. Molotov
    5. Tupelo
    6. Last of My Kind
    7. Cumberland Gap
    8. Anxiety
    9.White Man's World
    10. Hope the High Road

The only song I don't love is Hope the High Road though. I like it much better in the context of the album but when it first came out it didn't do much for me.

I like the lyrics on "Chaos and Clothes," but I don't love the melody and the song kind of sounds unfinished to me in terms of music and production.

  9. "Hope the High Road" was good but not great for me until the record came out. Now it could easily move as high as #4 on my list in a particular listen.

About "Chaos and Clothes," while I certainly don't dislike the song, I'll just say that it's the only song on the record that I won't be disappointed about not hearing live if he doesn't play it when I see him in a few weeks.

I still haven't had a chance to sit down and listen to this all the way through, but I've listened to all the songs now a few times. These are all really, really good songs. That shouldn't really come as a surprise seeing as this is Jason Isbell - this guy is just such an amazing songwriter.

I've thought for a long time that the reports of this being a 'big rock record' were probably vastly overblown - but even still I think I was thrown off at how much this album is most definitely NOT that. I'd say only two songs really approach that sound at all.

I wasn't crazy about the song Last of My Kind at first, and I think that was just a holdover from me not being able to get the silly rock idea out of my head and then having the album start of on a sort of gentle sounding song, because that is a beautiful, really well written song. I think my only complaint at this point is the sequencing of Last of My Kind - Cumberland Gap - Tupelo seems all over the place to me, but like I said, I haven't had a chance to play this all the way through a few times yet. This guy is so damn good.

Yeah, I really don't get the "this is going to be a rock record" promotion hype. Even in comparison to Something More Than Free, I wouldn't call this that much more "rock." "Cumberland Gap" is the exception.

  17. In addition to "Cumberland Gap," "Hope the High Road" too definitely rocks more than anything he's done recently--with the exception of "Super 8"

I'm interpreting those comments as this point as just meaning that these are songs that are generally more dependent on the other band members to make them what they are than songs on the last two records were. Which seems to be basically true.

BTW, there is going to be an NPR stream, but it's going up on Monday instead of today for some reason.

I've gotten a /lot/ of good music over the last few weeks. It's all gonna have to wait. Whenever I go to put on a record it's Nashville Sound. I had to get a new phone on Sunday and this went on there before my contacts. I don't think I've even logged back into twitter yet (sorry Craig) because I see the music ap and think "ooooo, white man's world."

Gave it a first spin on a sunny drive to Lake Louise. Big fan, and perfect weather for it.

Tupelo, Something to Love and White Mans World were the new songs that stood out to me.
