Maybe when people prove that they will actually vote for progressive candidates, they didn't in this race.

Is that what happened or did the democrats push and run a Goldman Sachs guy? And if the party is really progressive, is it really up to the voters to prove this before they run an actual progressive?

I posted my complete thoughts about Murphy winning and why he won on my facebook page but I figure I'll post it here too:

Phil Murphy successfully bought himself the democratic nomination for governor. Mr. Goldman Sachs spent over $20 million in the primaries, more than all of the other candidates combined. But this didn't just start recently. 2 years ago, Murphy started the dark money organization New Start New Jersey, which he refused to disclose how much money it raised and where it came from. He used this organization to gain name recognition and ultimately helped support his gubernatorial campaign. He also donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to County Democratic party organizations across the state. In return, all of the counties and party bosses endorsed Murphy for the primary.

Using all of his money he has gotten from his time working at Goldman Sachs and all of the investments he has made, including investments in fracking and pipelines (Murphy makes about $6million a year), he was able to run ads constantly in the past year and rack up all of the endorsements from the establishment (Senators Booker and Menendez, former VP Gore/Biden, former governors, etc).

No other democratic candidate ever had a real shot up against Mr. Goldman Sachs big money. It was never an equal playing field. Had Murphy agreed to public funding, there would be a cap to the amount of money he could spend in the primary, making it a more fair process. Murphy wasn't the best democrat running and most people know he isn't the best.

The bottom line is ordinary citizens who don't follow politics too closely see Murphy's ads, see his name around, and like what they hear. Name recognition and money is everything. Murphy had both from the start. What happens when people aren't informed and candidates buy elections? You'll get stuck with someone like Murphy, who is Corzine 2.0

Kim Guadagno also won the republican primary. So, come November, it's Corzine 2.0 vs Christie 2.0

Somewhere Paul Ryan was giving a fist pump when she said that, thinking of all the starving children in majorly populated poor communities

Part of my job is sourcing articles for a company based in NJ and they wanted local NJ news. Stumbled upon this:

Phil Murphy, Kim Guadagno Declared Winners In New Jersey Gubernatorial Primary

I read through the statements of each winning candidate and while I'm not sure if it's how the article was written, the Dem candidate's statement was so weak compared to the Republican. "Thanks for voting for me, Trump sucks, right, guys?" versus a statement that actually reflects voters' values.

  14. Yes.

Why didn't they vote for the progressive candidate? At some point the excuses don't hold water and people need to vote and win elections. This chicken and egg issue is going to be a part of democracy.

  15. I keep saying it and people keep ignoring it: a lot of voters want these kinds of candidates. They want these policies. That's why they win! People want them and they're way better at selling the argument.

If the talk of the town is taking responsibility for losing a race ... then it's time to really learn that.

If I've done the math right, it was around 13% of the electorate. Pretty pathetic.
Happy to support Wisniewski with my vote, though.

Phil Murphy didn't win because people liked him. He won because people knew him. I know people personally who were going to vote for Murphy because they didn't know anyone else running. I convinced them to research Wisniewski and they ended up voting for him.

Thousands more need to do just that and the candidate needs to get their message out as well. That's on the progressive movement. That's on us to do. I'm tired of making excuses for where we fail, cause it's on us now and we suck at it. Imo.
