i remember the making up a fake lawyer, threatening people, the shitty business dealings, recording covers and selling them because he couldn't get the rights to the original copies...

 

I would hope that some of the proceeds from this go to Tyson Steven's estate. But from what these stories say about Ross/ETR that looks unlikely.

 

no way, they bought the rights from the label, the band certainly gets nothing unless the label gave some of the proceeds from the rights

but i doubt it

I got an email from Discogs that said Alchemy Index was being sold for $40. I got all sad when I realized the seller was only selling the Earth disc :/

 

I'm gonna be broke forever with this hobby.

Don't know if anyone would even be interested in this on here but I have a Neck Deep/Knuckle Puck 7inch split - opaque purple with blue splatter- limited to 250 (neck deep tour press from 2014 tour). I've literally never listened to it. I noticed on discogs it's going for a bunch of money (100 to 200 bucks...crazy) but if anyone on here is interested and would listen to it/enjoy it more than I do shoot me a message or offer!

 

Is anyone doing this record store crawl thing? It sounds so fun.

I hear ya. I spent over 500 this weekend on records, new player and speaker, and there are a few albums coming out that I want to preorder but have been forcing myself to wait.

 

I feel you. I spent so much money on records on RSD and there have been a ton of new pre-orders I've grabbed. I wish I had a more selective music taste sometimes haha. Also, Manchester orchestra apparently has a pre order going up on Thursday so there's another I have to try to not cave into yet.

I don't understand why you'd do that...why break up the entire set from that vinyl collection?

 

There was an issue with the Earth record that wasn't caught until after it was shipped and if you contacted the label you would get sent the fixed version. Quite a few people neglected to do that, so it could certainly be helpful for someone that bought the broken version secondhand without knowing.

 

Does anyone else here like to collect or get more rare pressings when shopping for records? For some reason I find myself having no problem spending more money on a limited edition record on discogs or somethin even though I could go to a record store and by it for much cheaper. I don't know what it is exactly, I just love getting the limited edition stuff.

 

I do, but I don't go out of my way to do nowadays. I'll typically order the most limited variant when it's a pre-order, but I don't actively seek out rare pressings for records I really want. I'll usually wait for those to get reissued or repressed.

One exception to this rule is if a label is putting out a 180g version of a record versus a normal pressing or picture disc. I'll typically go for the 180g version due to better sound quality and record durability in the long run.

 

I actually did buy the Earth 10" late last year. In my mind it will hold me over until I can afford the real deal.
