Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Not only was that speech from May blatant campaigning by making a policy stance, I also really don't think she made the right call talking about attacking the 'tolerance for extremism'. I really think that's more appeasing the right wingers than it is about acting effectively.

Yeah, May's speech was pretty disgusting when you think about how much her government has funded and fuelled extremism over the last 7 years. As if the Tories care about the dead, they just see this as a political opportunity a few days away from a general election.

Yeah, that 'tolerance for extremists' shit is patently absurd. Point out for me one person tolerant of extremism short of the extremists themselves.

You know, Trump's statement after Manchester was something I thought of as respectable. This and his tweet last night are the exact opposite. He's a fucking awful president and a fucking awful human being.

This is such a stupid stance some Americans take:

No, piss off with your guns - that would have caused way more casualties. Knives and trucks serve a common purpose that guns don't. I'm glad almost no one in the UK wants guns.

Absolutely pathetic response. May isn't fit to be Prime Minister.

  10. I think the most satisfying outcome narratively (not what I want to happen politically) is a hung parliament, everyone thinks May will swing a coalition but she blows it with a gaffe and then gets voted out with no confidence. Just to prolong her suffering a bit. But obviously best case is an outright labour win

I think a hung parliament is a realistic outcome, but if May falls short by 16 seats there's realistically no chance that she'll get a coalition. The only parties that will potentially prop that up are the DUP and Lib Dems, and I don't think between them they'll get more than that. The only outcomes that are realistic are a Labour minority government or a Tory majority.

No way Lib Dem unite with the Tories again, they must know that's suicide after 2010.

  13. The idea of a labour minority gov scares me, aren't minority governments historically untenable? I'd hate for this movement to overshoot itself and get destroyed quickly.

Anyway I was just trying to come up with the hypothetical situation that results in the most embarrassment for May

In theory yes, but I think it'd end up a coalition in effect. There aren't many policy areas Labour disagrees with SNP/Plaid/Green on, and between them they'd have a majority and so would be able to push through legislation that Labour proposes. Either way, I think any losses would be a huge embarrassment for May. She and the Conservatives bloody deserve it.

I don't think a Tory Lib-Dem coalition is likely either, but I can't entirely rule it out, so it's just me calculating the point of absolute loss for Conservatives.

You're absolutely right, and I'm sorry, my post was insensitive. I'm just tired of hearing about all these terror attacks and the only reaction (at least in the US) seems to be condolences and prayers while the communities who are working to prevent these attacks from happening get ignored by authorities. I don't think it's possible to prevent 100% of these attacks and I know that authorities are working and there's a lot of intelligence to sift through. It's a tough situation regardless and I think it's just frustrating for those of us who feel as if there's nothing we can do when we perceive a threat.

'One man who knew the killer told the BBC he had become so concerned by his extremist views he rang the anti-terrorist hotline. He claimed the attacker was not arrested and was allowed to keep his passport.'

'He even appeared in TV documentary about British jihadis and was questioned by police after an Islamic State flag was unfurled in a park.'

'Erica Gasparri, 42, said she had also raised concerns. She said Abz would sit in a park opposite Northbury Primary School in Barking with two other men and talk to local children. The mum-of-three said he would offer the kids sweets and claimed to be "teaching them about religion". Another local who knew the attacker said he was kicked out of a mosque last year for supporting ISIS.'
London Bridge 'ringleader' was home-grown jihadi known for extremist views

Yet another "home-grown" terrorist - who was reported several times and even kicked out of a mosque for his extremist views. Kudos for the plans that they have foiled lately (which really doesn't get enough praise) but there's still much more work to do; the UK just isn't feeling very safe anymore.

If this spotlight that's shined on police cuts works as effectively as it looks like it is, I could imagine this is probably quite accurate.
