I went to RMU and I can say from experience that Pittsburgh fans aren't fairweather, they're just smug assholes.

 

It's a mix. I grew up there until I was 22. Think about how many people give two shits about the Pirates right now. However if they made a pennant run how many would show up out of nowhere for games.

The pens almost relocated due to the lowest attendance in the league in 2004 and then boom they get Crosby and start competing again. I'm not saying that everyone is fairweather, but they're out there.

 

The smug assholes probably make up more of percentage, though.

 

I met a lot of Pirates fans there, surprisingly. They didn't go to the games because the team was shit at the time, but they followed the team pretty closely. I just know that I hated talking sports & going out to watch games there because it was treated like a damn cult.

 

I hear you. A cult is not a far off comparison haha.
