Ya, words like "maturity" "darker" "interesting" "diverse" and "experimental" don't equate to "masterpiece". While blink did it well on untitled, there's really no other pop-punk album before or after Enema that can come close to it.

I used to be on board with this sentiment until I realized that even with the simple three-chord structure, blink killed it. Outside of Green Day's Dookie, I don't see any other pop-rock album coming close to Enema.

  3. Well, I didn't call Untitled a " masterpiece " . I just happen to think it's the band's best album. It's far from a masterpiece.

I think pop-punk is one of the most boring genres of music out there, so that's not really saying much. I guess that's why I like Untitled, it really felt like they took the best elements of the genre whilst also experimenting enough to create something different. Untitled has so far proven itself to be a timeless record, it genuinely feels like it could be released today. Whereas Enema is pretty dated and a chore to get through. Maybe that type of music just doesn't appeal to me.

I think calling Untitled a pop punk record is doing it a disservice as it so varied and takes so much from other genres.

oh well ya that makes sense then. If you're not a fan of pop punk then Enema is hot garbage. As a fan, it's my gold standard. Also explains my apprehension towards praising untitled hah.

I didn't, I said it uses some of the best elements of the genre

but that's just it, blink 182 is one of the greatest pop punk bands of all time (if not the greatest). I'll give them credit for trying a more alternative album with pop punk elements but, sorry, it just didn't work nearly as well as their earlier discog. Even among comparable albums of the time (Deja entendu comes to mind), untitled doesn't stand out.

A lot of pre-untitled blink releases sound embarassing lyric-wise nowadays. Untitled is the one album that can give them the respect they deserve so far.

Untitled is the sound of a band firing on all cylinders. Never have I heard a band reinvent themselves so brilliantly. It's just a shame that we never got a proper follow-up album.

Enema doesn't feel the slightest bit dated to me. The production is extremely crisp and it feels just as fresh to me today as it did in 1999.

  12. I agree. Enema, TOYPAJ, and Untitled could be released today and still sound like they were made this year.

Totally agreed. It's crazy they leapt from TOYPAJ to that. It sounds like there should have been like another album or two of evolution in between those two albums. I probably listen to Dude Ranch more often but I think Untitled is easily their best work.

  15. Box Car Racer was definitely the bridge.

Love those videos they made for that. Glad they made one for Stockholm Syndrome, probably my favorite blink song ever.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

I think Box Car Racer --> Untitled --> We Don't Need to Whisper was the best creative sequence of Tom's career. Everything ever since has fallen short.

saw it on instagram under #blink182 haha

edit: I agree with everyone who's said they are probably playing KROQ weenie roast. It looks like that is usually announced at the end of April, so I am guessing blink are gonna premier the single live at KROQ and also be a part of the lineup announcement for that

I think Sublime is legally required to include "with Rome". If so this can't be real, but I also could be completely making that up.
