yeah, i about feel the same. the songs that stand out are very very good but the whole thing doesn't have too much replay value. it's a good listen but it's not a standout for the year

 

i can't decide if this, oso or kendrick are my AOTY at the moment.

I'm enjoying the album but I definitely wouldn't rank it against Charmer. Still need time with this one, but as of now I do kinda miss Adam's contributions

 

I think if they could just vary up the sound a bit on the next record it would push them forward but I really love that they honed in on one sound here and made it as good as they possibly could. While I feel that the music isn't super complex there are a lot of really tasteful musical decisions throughout

 

Another record in this style might get a bit tiring, but it works for me here. This record feels like it could be the start of a new chapter for Tigers Jaw that could them down some different pathways in the future. For right now, though, I think this is a great record. I'd put it in my top 3 of the year so far.

 

its definitely not super nuanced but i think just the emotional connection i'm having to these lyrics and this band as a whole right now has me vibing with it on an unreasonable level.

 

The amount of praise this is getting in here really makes me wish I loved it more than I do haha

 

I def understand people's qualms with it though, I'm pretty sure after listening to their entire discography the band doesn't have a song that's not in 4/4 time, that's almost impressive

 

One lyrical theme I love on the album is the idea that sometimes you are constantly running away from the same problems. I feel this way very often

 

no its not lol almost every band in certain genres only write in 4/4 time its the most common time signature for a reason, most people always write in it

 

Yeah 4/4 time is a pretty common tempo for genres like rock and emo if anything it's kinda strange they haven't written a song that's not in that tempo.

 

Most emo records have songs in 3 occasionally thrown in. Hotelier always have a couple. Pup had some. Menzingers had one on their record.. paramore had a few. Most albums have one or two songs in 3. Even straight pop punk bands. If you name a record that you know I listen to I bet I could mention at least some 3/4 moments on the record

 

Actually I challenge you to find a band with at least three records that doesn't have a song in three four-time

Yeah I definitely feel like it was a tongue in cheek comment, like it's "impressive" how they've managed to be so limited in time signatures
