Yeah but I'd rather be a 3rd of the way to where we need to be if/when a giant breakthrough in energy technology happens that makes emission reduction faster/easier/cheaper.

 

No one is making the statement that, because it is insufficient, it is okay that Trump withdrew from the accords; rather, it is important to put the accords themselves within a broader context of where we need to go, as opposed to speaking about it as an end-point or the best humanity can do in terms of addressing climate change.
