    agreed on both counts.

Langhorns is a really good surf band, check them out. They are from Lund, Sweden. Their self titled record is my favorite - I can only find it on youtube anymore but I still listen on the reg.

(any youtube videos with ^ that artwork are from the album im talking about)

yeah there was the Smile! album by Brian Wilson in 2004 but then when the sessions were reassembled with actual BB takes back in like 2011, they re-entered the discussion as an official Beach Boys album imo

ahhh i see. thats cool that he managed to get it released, even if it wasnt quite what he wanted it to be. the BB discography is so weird to me because Pet Sounds sticks out like a sore thumb. thats awesome though.

I always wanted Brian and Tony Asher to collaborate together again since theyve had nothing but great things to say about one another

it certainly isn't unpopular to say that Mike Love is a chump and Brian Wilson is a genius

yeah ML is kind of a jerk. his revisionist history about always loving PS and supporting Brian wanting to collaborate with other people is such bs.

I think I need to correct the lack of time I've spent on The Beach Boys.

This thread is so good. Somebody follows the spirit of the thread by giving his unpopular opinion and then get shits on for a few posts/pages, until someone else comes in that follows the spirit of the thread. Great reading material.

meh, I think that's how the old "controversial opinions" thread worked on AP, but my experience in this thread on chorus has been a lot more positive. Usually when I come in here I'm inspired to listen to things I haven't heard, or haven't heard in awhile because of someone else's very angular perspective on it piquing my interest.

Watched a couple of documentaries about how Pet Sounds was made and it really is just so genius. Seeing old studio footage and audio of Brian directing everybody and joking around with the Wrecking Crew studio musicians is so cool. Brain was willing to try just about anything like having a theremin and bass harmonica in a rock record or using bicycle horns and coke bottles to get certain sounds. Its cool hearing the studio musicians talk so highly of Brian despite being much much younger than them, i remember Hal Blaine saying he was blown away by the fact that Brian came in with sheet music already written for them when usually theyd have to invent the music for the person they worked for. Don Randi and Carol Kaye also said they wished theyd been in the studio when the boys recorded the vocals, Randi said he remembers looking at Brian and watching his eyes move quickly and he was mumbling and he realized Brian was figuring out where the vocals would be.

Its also really neat seeing photos of Tony Asher and Brian together. Asher said in one interview that hearing the final product was so exciting not because of his lyrics but because up until that point he had only heard the songs being played on piano. In Brians head he was hearing all of the strings and guitars and pianos and horns and woodwinds and all of that, but Tony had no idea. Seems like that was a really fun, creative, magical time for all involved. Its a shame some of the WC musicians have passed away because I'd love to see them all reunite if only just to gab about studio stories.

probably not exactly shoegaze but definitely in that dream pop vein. A band actually named after that other Beach Boys album (Wildhoney) from Baltimore is doing it rite.

yeah dude they were my favorite local band when I lived in Baltimore and they've grown a lot since then too. I'm even jealous of the band name Wildhoney haha. I saw them at 3 or 4 different small clubs in town. They responded but were occupied with a tour when I asked if they would play with my band when we toured back through Balty. I really hope to share a stage with them before they get too big for us because that's probably gonna happen soon haha.

doesn't scare me. We have tons of good live videos that speak for themselves. I don't have that fear of rejection now that I've booked a tour and multiple festivals this year that Terrain had no business playing on a few months ago.

i more mean that they choose lineups in which they play with bands who musically they are big fans of, i rarely ever see them play a random bill. and you're definitely way different than the normal stuff they play with

Yeah, my mentality is just to send an email anyway cause I've been surprised a lot of times already how far that's gotten me. Maybe they set up an EP or merch release show and a band they had booked dropped out. There are those bands that will only play up to bigger bands but those are kinda rare. I just send them my best videos of my most detailed songs live and hope they're impressed haha, it really is the best ammunition if you're a good live act.

I guess it would make sense for Wildhoney to be that band though, since their sound is so specific, they stand out as THE dream pop band in Baltimore to book haha. Aside from maybe Thrushes.

While we're on the topic of great small-scale bands, I FUCKING LOVE this three song EP by The Bad Bees (Philly indie-rock). They were in the finals of some contest for 104.5 FM radio for Philly's best local band. We played with the drummer's other band on our northeast tour, and now they're coming down and playing with us in Jax on August 5. That's a show I'm stupidly excited about.

also Boysin, a damn good local emo band kinda like Foxing is playing as well:
