Just want to add with another point, people (not necessarily you) who consistently ask this question, or the people who blame single mothers, young mothers, poor families, etc for having kids when they knew they couldn't afford it is dangerously toeing the line of taking the stance that only the wealthy can and should procreate. Terrible.

I have a very "mine, yours, and ours" type of family. I have two kids, my wife has two kids, and we have a kid together. I knew it was going to be hard, but I love my wife and love her kids as if they were my own. My wife has pushed me to be a better man and it was been great and there is nothing I would rather have than her and her kids in my life.

Now to actually answer the question, my oldest is almost 9, my middle child is 5, and my youngest is 14 months. When I had my first two kids I was still living in a fantasy land. I honestly believed that it was going to get better. It didn't, but I would absolutely never wish to not have my kids. My kids are awesome and they are worth all of the hours each day I have to work.

I've worked this much since I was 14 so I am used to it. I've accepted my fate, but I will not accept that same fate for my kids. I really want to start being more proactive in helping with change, but like I said before I have just recently come to a lot of these realizations about lower-middle-upper class and how middle class doesn't exist anymore unless you make a couple hundred thousand dollars a year.

So, I knew it was going to be hard. I just never imagined it would be like this. I'm not sure if I really answered your question or not, but I appreciate you asking to be honest.

I know a lot of people who quit going to college about halfway through and had already accumulated a lot of student loans. It's awful. Like they didn't get a degree and still have to pay the debt.

    good.

But a minor gripe I've been having with the media that's been on my mind since the Lester Holt interview that's referenced in this article is:
Like it's a context thing, but I interpret the statement everyone is saying as "admitting to firing Comey over Russia" to have a completely different meaning than it got interpreted. Like, he was saying that "this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story" with an (obviously wrong) implied "so that's why the American people will be glad I fired him". Obviously he's wrong and was full of shit when he said that, and I'm not defending him, but IMO saying things like that are damning confessions just adds fuel to the "fake media" "fake news" fire.

or 22 years of english experience isn't enough to figure this cheetoh out

My younger sister did this. She just up and quit her pharmacy degree just because, not because of her loans. Then she defaulted and ruined her credit for life and is still struggling to pay her other bills. Idk how to help her.

  16. @dorfmac If everyone waited until it was economically feasible to have kids, no one would have them

  18. "you shouldn't have kids if you can't afford it" is literally just saying "poor people shouldn't have kids." it also speaks to an ideology where your one and only priority is allowed to be your job and your economic situation, everything must be subservient and can only exist if it exists in harmony with that priority

on the topic of kids, I have 2 one is 3 and one is 2. they are about to start going to school a couple days a week because my wife is going back to school for her masters degree. School for 1 kid 2 days a week in the austin area is $500 a month. 2 kids 2 days a week is going to be a little less than $950 a month plus the cost of my wife's tuition at UT is not going to be cheap. She's going to get loans but I don't think we'll qualify for any financial aid because I make a decent income even though it's crazy expensive to live in the austin area. I still have about $9000 worth of loans but my payment is only $125 a month.
having kids is great and I wouldn't change it but it's really a life changing thing that shouldn't be taken lightly for all you youngsters out there.

Yeah, it is just bad all around. The student loan crisis reminds me a lot of the housing loan crisis. I know they aren't exactly comparable, but those people from the early 2000's who got the loans for houses that they obviously couldn't afford is almost exactly how I feel.

Yeah, and now they're trying to sell their houses that they bought for 350k but they're only worth 200k now...shitty situation but makes it a good time for buyers.

Wonder why a rich neolib is okay and all the poor people are crumbling beneath her feet as she politely yells "oopsy!"?
