Good article/interview but maybe I'm just being cynical but would there really be that much interest for promoters to try and book Box Car Racer nowadays? I mean it's been 15 years since the album came out and they only toured 30 dates. Even with nostalgia being strong would they be able to fill up anything but clubs or the small venues AVA would headline if they did ever do a reunion? It's been a dead brand/band for way too long.

Although I still say I'm extremely tired of Tom continuing to hype big announcements only to say "yeah the announcement is coming it's just been pushed back a little bit longer, etc". Also I love how he was teasing fans with BCR stuff on social media and possibly doing new music with that band and then turns around and says nah it's AVA music coming soon.

I'm sure by Coachella he actually means Riot Fest.

Serious question because I honestly don't know the answer but would a big festival really want Box Car Racer to perform? I mean I would think Tom and/or Travis aren't going to play the show for peanuts and would putting Box Car Racer on the band line up really make it worth it for the promoters?

As much as I love BCR and that album, I just don't see it as something in 2017 that would really bring in the causal fan. Just look at AVA when they were active, they really didn't draw that well, never really headlined a big venue that I'm aware of, and that was when the band was touring and putting out new music.

Maybe I'm underestimating them, but I wouldn't think anyone who wasn't already a big fan would even know who the hell Box Car Racer was. I'm sure they could double the drawing power if they advertised it as "BOX CAR RACER (ft. Tom Delonge and Travis Barker of blink-182)" or something.

I'm not in touch with the festival scene I guess, but I couldn't think of a festival that would care other than Riot Fest. Reuniting old bands and having them play seminal albums is their thing, and that scene is familiar with them. At least in my experience, when I consider Coachella and the people that I know that are interested in attending, they have no idea who Box Car Racer is.

Yeah that's my thinking as well.

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

If it happened it would be Riot fest/Wrecking Ball and maybe a few warm up/one off shows, and a vinyl reissue.

I would love to hear Tom try and sing anything from that Box Car album. He sounds nothing like he did on that now.

  10. however, that was the beginning of the end for him, vocally. that tour is when he really started slurring his words and whatnot.

Yeah I do not see the Fugazi comparisons at all. BCR sounded nothing like them.

I have almost 0 interest in hearing him sing or play anything live lol. I bet if he hadn't touched a guitar ever since the BCR album came out, he would be just as good as he is today.

If box car racer was "music school," then how come it's also when he started forgetting how to sing? School doesn't usually teach you how to forget.

  15. BCR was awesome. The quiet parts were extra quiet and the louder parts were extra loud, which gave it a really cool dynamic and made it feel heavier than it actually is. I feel like "Please Take Me Home" was kind of a preview of BCR, and the production/mixing on "Everytime I Look For You" was a preview of those peaks and valleys.

Whatever it would sound like....I would gladly listen to new BCR. Probably not gonna happen though. Tom recently posted "new music coming" and tagged Angels and Airwaves.

That's why his music school has enrollment of 0.

The BCR talk was just a cocktease to gain attention for new AvA music announcement.

  20. While he did start singing worse, I think he definitely stepped out of his comfort zone for BCR and tried new things, while still maintaining his typical styles. Without the BCR album or him wanting to branch out from the Enema/TOYPAJ Blink era, we may have never actually gotten Blink's Untitled album, and that's a world I wouldn't want to live in, haha.

  23. I just did a podcast where I said this exact thing! I think I remember hearing or reading tom say it in an interview around the time toypaj came out - that was the direction he wanted to pursue musically.

Only gripe I have with the album is that some of the song guitar intros are starting to sound the same.

I would GLADLY take a BCR album if it was high enough quality, had a producer and Travis thought it was good enough to put out under the BCR name. If it's just Tom making 10 Circle Jerk Pits and slapping the BCR label on it I would be pissed
