I haven't listened to enough Green Day albums to really say haha. Mostly for the same reason - they can write great songs but not necessarily great albums

Yeah I just really like album bands with a more well rounded sound, even when it comes to straightforward pop rock. When I listen to Green Day it's a junk food snack. When I listen to Jimmy Eat World it's a balanced breakfast lol

I'm not sure anyone, including Billie Joe, would argue Green Day over JEW.

Then you add that sparkly indie rock guitar tone, and turn up the bass, start playing chords that aren't power chords and you have an exotic lunch in Death Cab or Nada Surf. Now we're really talking. Like adding pork fat or creole seasoning. BAM.

Nimrod has more variety than blink's entire discography.

Also, for me personally, if I listen to blink, it's entirely rooted in nostalgia. Listening to Green Day from like, Dookie to Warning, I feel like they're just well written songs that I can put on anytime

I just think Green Day have tried a lot more things musically than Blink over the course of their career. I also think Billie Joe is a way more versatile vocalist than either Mark or Tom.

Would it be uncommon to say that the new Slowdive is their best? I feel like I'm leaning towards that

  9. As biased as I am, I'm calling bullshit on this aha.

  10. Also I feel Blink shouldn't get in the Rock Hall.

I like Jimmy Eat World. I almost never listen to them but I'd take them before Green Day, Blink 182, and Alkaline Trio combined

Jimmy Eat World are the best band in this scene.

They're fine. I don't hold their "classics" above a lot of other releases in the scene. Middle of the road, consistent, never really had any emotional attachment to anything they've done.

I don't consider them in any scene at this point. But JEW could release any of their records after Static today and it'd still be good. Can't say that about Blink for sure.

They'll be on the cusp in my opinion. They don't have an "important" album like Green Day had with American Idiot, but they have the sales, so they may be one that gets nominated and sits for a while.

    unpopular music opinion:

why are we still talking about the "scene" past 2003? Does that word even mean the same thing or has it ever referred to anything other than early 2000s pop-punk? Do we just reinvent that term every time a new generation likes new music?

I really don't get what the point of calling bands part of some vague "scene" is, there's no specificity in that term... there's millions of music scenes. And on the other hand, touring bands with marketing tools find other similar sounding touring bands with marketing and tour together, that doesn't really make it a scene if it isn't localized.

Like, just describe their music style?

I can pretty easily say Jimmy Eat World are my favorite big pop-rock band of the '00s. There. I described the "scene" I'm talking about by using just a couple more words. Which isn't even a scene, it's actually the mainstream spectrum of music.

It just needlessly separates and prioritizes music to call it part of "THE scene", it's not a contest, there's no reason to be sectarian about it

I don't think I've ever used "the scene" to describe a band outside of Philly or the NYC metro.

yeah i don't see why JEW is considered part of the scene, they've been a big rock band with no connection to "warped tour" music in like 15 years lol
