    Damn, man.

Rock on forever, Chris. As a kid I was obsessed with Blackhole Sun and the music video. First I remember be fascinated with a music video. Then in High School I was obsessed with Audioslave's first two albums.

  5. Awful news. Wasn't a huge Soundgarden fan but Audioslave meant a lot to me when I was 14-15. Eddie Vedder really kinda looks like the survivor of the grunge era now.

I know this is being investigated as a possible suicide and we'll probably see a lot about that in the coming days, but just a friendly reminder that it's never okay to speculate on the internet about what might have driven someone to take their life, no matter how famous that person is. It's disrespectful to those who were close to the victim, and even more importantly you never know what someone who reads your post might be wrestling with and how what you wrote might affect them.

If you're a fan struggling with the "why" of this, I'd suggest instead that you give a donation in Cornell's memory to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention--if you are able to do so. Link: Give a Gift — AFSP

Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

I don't even know what to say about this. I seriously didn't want to believe it when I saw the news this morning. Superunknown has been and always will be one of my favorite albums out of the grunge era. I'll be jamming to it all weekend now.

Over the past few months I started listening to a Audioslave again. This news sucks.

Huge bummer. Losing a lot of good singers and musicians the last few years and it's really sad.

Tell me that someone got footage of his final song performance last night?

According to setlist.fm the show ended with a piece of the Led Zepplin song 'in my time of dying' which has the following lyrics:

    "In my time of dying
    I want nobody to mourn
All I want for you to do
    Is take my body home"

Im not a big fan of lists.... but at some point, there will be a list posted about 'best chris cornell songs' and honestly, it depends on my mood what song is good.

But really - whenever a Soundgarden song came on the radio, Id stop, and put the windows down, and sing along, because you know all the words to all the songs that play on the radio (and if you don't know them, you make them up....) From the first of mine (Big Dumb Sex) to Pretty Noose (from Down on the Upside) - (I cant comment on King Animal, since I cant remember anything from it that got airplay).....

Every song is known. Any song could be in karaoke (except big dumb sex....) and any 40+ year old guy would know it, if they had the same musical tastes....

As for audioslave, then they came out, I looked at it as 'Soundgarden against the Machine'.... I didn think much of it, but the more I listen now, the more I realize I missed the boat. Sure, I know the radiohits..... but I didnt take ad vantage then....

As said elsewhere, the years from 87-91 made me who I am today (for the music). Its when I turned from Echo, the Smiths, the Cure, into college rock, alternative rock, modern rock, Seattle sound - and learned who Subpop was, where Seattle was, and what grunge was (and I had plenty of flannel, and my Chuck Taylors)

I guess this one is taking a bigger toll on me than Kurts passing. Ill be fine, soon enough, but the tunes will play for a bit longer this week....

God, such a loss and so unexpected. I feel so awful for his loved ones. This is too young to go. An immense talent.

I grew up on grunge. My favorite memories of growing up are summers past spent listening to Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden. I listened to pretty much nothing but Nirvana for 3 years, despite Kurt being dead by a few years by the time I was born.

Chris Cornell's passing is hitting me especially hard since Weiland died fairly recently and they were basically the only two vocalists left of the era, but hearing that it was suicide is almost too much. As a musician my admiration for Kurt's talent really conflicted with dealing with my own suicidal ideation. I don't really know how to process Cornell meeting the same end.

This is random, but I was just thinking about how Cornell sounds a lot like Sammy Hagar and how he'd be a good one-off fill in for a Van Halen show. No one cares about VH in here I'm sure, but it crossed my mind earlier this week and now this happens...
