If they played 26 into Last Hope in their live shows my life would be made!

Finally had my first listen and it was a very enjoyable record that I'm sure will grow on me but sadly I expected more from reading how hyped everyone in this thread is haha

this is very random but does anyone here have a copy of Hayley's old playlists on rdio (RIP) because I was trying to find them the other day I remember one was called something like "teenage youth" and had a bunch of deftones and cure

Doubt anyone has this but yknow shot in the dark lol

Hayley is a seriously underrated songwriter there are some seriously great lyrics and melodies and like Kayla said she's got such good control of her vocals.

This album has been so rewarding. With each listen I have new takeaways and understanding...it's actually been a very emotional process.

I wanted to talk about Idle Worship for a minute. The title is a play on words..."idle" can mean without purpose or meaningless...but the double entendre is obviously with "idol" as well.

In the interview with Zane Hayley talked about it a bit. She seemed reluctant to say something that might offend the fans, but it seems she struggled a lot with fan interactions and people expecting her to be a certain way when she talked to them. A lot of women in particular look up to her, and it must be a lot of pressure to feel so dark but to also have to try to be a light for so many. Not to mention that she has received so much hate at times, people claiming she's a bitch or a diva or something equally as terrible. You have these dudes in bands who send nudes to little girls and people defend them to the death but people have wanted to crucify Hayley for so much, including all the problems in the band. Because Hayley and Josh dated, so much speculation went into his departure and so many put the blame on her. It has been hard as someone who loves this band as I do to watch.

I love this song and I love the play on words in the title. I love how much Hayley explores her own darkness and embraces it. I relate with this album so much it's insane. I know what it is like to have to be a rock for people when all you can do is collapse into yourself. And considering she is on the world stage it must have been so hard.

not really, i just don't like how people have reacted - it doesn't make people want to join in the discussion. not everyone likes everything, and i started to feel uncomfortable. not with push back, but with the way the push back happened. i don't want to feel intimidated after saying "here's one song i don't like that much". this is generally, not just or necessarily only towards you, lol. i never even said it was terrible, y'know? that's really all, lol. it just comes across, generally as "shock!!! someone doesn't like what i like!!! grrr why!" and i'm like eh? it's not a big deal, you know? that's why different sounds/genres exist, for different tastes.

yeah i hope people take this song to heart and re think how they view people they're fans of. she articulated everything really well in the lyrics.

I understand that, I definitely never meant to come across like I was trying to shut down other opinions or that people couldn't share them, and I doubt that's what anyone means. I probably could've phrased the original comment a little different. I like to think it's been one of the more friendly album discussion threads for a big release I've seen in a while, so I don't want anyone to feel that's not the case.

On a related note, I'm just really glad this hasn't devloved in a typical Fall Out Boy type thread way where it becomes arguing about genre and all that stuff. Seems like even the criticisms are a little more thoughtful than "wherz are my geetars".

Exactly my thoughts. She really challenged herself to let her bandmates shine and insert herself in a way that made it more cohesive. Again, not saying she's tried to feature herself in the past, but it just felt very deliberate this time around.

That song hits hard. There's even more to read into it than that I feel. I know as a parent I feel this struggle, especially having depression and anxiety, and feeling like you need to be everyone's light. I think what I really love is that Hayley is writing songs that aren't just saying, "I was mad/sad but I'm okay now" And instead saying, "Hey, I'm frustrated, I'm sad, I'm scared... and I'll just keep surviving." That is so much more real and powerful.

Finally spent enough time with this album last night and like everyone else, I love it.

Idle worship / no friend is such a dark two punch and I love it.

I hope there are b-sides to this. I would love nothing more than to see there being a 2 or 3 song EP around the end of the year.:verysad:

The only song I think I'll skip is No Friend. I find it pretty repetitive musically, and I'm not a fan of talking vocals, so yeah, not for me.

Yeah there are so many layers. I love how exposed the album is, and it's refreshing that there's not exactly a finality to the album, like you've come out the other side of something - as Hayley said, she is still working on healing from her struggles - but there is a hopefulness among the melancholy.

Can we talk about how fucking amazing most of the bridges in these songs are? In a lot of them they're my favorite part of the song and that's so rare for me.
