for a band that was as earnestly romantic as blink-182 was for their whole career to casually toss off a line about cheating on your girlfriend rings really dissonant to me, aside from the song just being mediocre in general.

Yes! That line just doesn't feel like blink to me, and it feels like the entire first verse is just pandering to 20 something's, which doesn't feel genuine at all especially after the same theme being repeated so often throughout California. Sure blink's glory days were the early 2000's but they've never been a nostalgia band up until this point and it makes me sad. I can't wait for this era of the band to be over...

Maybe I'm hearing it wrong but I am pretty sure that verse is about things he DOESNT want to do. At least that's how I interpret it

yeah on second listen it seems he's, for some reason, lumping cheating on your girlfriend being something you do when you grow up.

these are bad lyrics and this is a boring song

Wildfire is the best out of the deluxe shit they've released. That's not saying that much.

Yeah I think the song in general is about not wanting to grow up and do typical adult things which happens to most people (living for the weekend, being bored with your life and cheating on your SO, etc.)

The lyrics are kind of disjointed, so it's hard to interpret a coherent message from all of it.

That first paragraph sums up what I interpret from it. It's not about wanting to remain a kid and doing those things, it's about being older but not wanting to be like what say maybe the online/popular idea of being older is (taking pills to get through, living pay check to pay check, living for the weekend and being bored with life and cheating etc)

I enjoy this but I really don't know how anyone can think this is above Hey I'm Sorry, Misery, and 6-8 lol

Honestly out of the six deluxe songs we've gotten so far the only one I ever see myself coming back to is 6/8, and even that isnt THAT good of a song.

It's not, and if we get that type of song from LP8 I'll be thrilled. Those have been some of my favorites from this round. That being said I still enjoy these type of songs and the lighter tone of California in general. Maybe I am just a fan boy, but I've been having fun with the bonus tracks on a deluxe cd; and I'll take that over bitter over analyzing any day lol

Me neither and it makes me so sad.

I know the debate about how blink were never a lyrical band thing is forever ongoing but you cannot convince me they were ever as "forced" as they are now. Just vague metaphors and shitty teen rebellion.

despite the weakness of ALL of the *new* deluxe tracks (hey I'm sorry doesn't count imo), i still love standard cali and i won't give up entirely on blink-40trio unless the next proper album matches the boring uninspired deluxe stuff.

I enjoy most of these new tracks, but the lyrics definitely stand out as uninspired and lame, even for blink. Misery and Parking Lot should've been on the original album.

  18. This new era of Blink definitely is catering to the Hot Topic/Warped Tour crowd of today. I can dig some of it, maybe even a lot of it, but I definitely don't connect to them the same way I used to. Neighborhoods was the beginning of that discovery for me though so the whole "IT'S BECAUSE THERE'S NO TOM!" argument doesn't apply to me. I think it's really the lack of Jerry Finn. He kept the band grounded, real, interesting, and powerful.

I know people were freaking out about co-writes and all that but I think the current state of the band could really benefit from some ghost writers

Or we could have Skiba write in his usual style which would be excellent

Yeah I agree with you although I really loved California because it brought me back to being a teenager and first discovering blink. I still enjoy/like the Deluxe songs but outside of Misery none of them would my top 6 tracks off of California.

But yeah losing Finn hurt the band more than losing Tom.

  23. I'm just excited to make a "CALIFORNIA ULTIMATE!" track list and just listen to that all summer (when i'm not listening to NFG or Paramore)

Yeah the lack of Jerry is probably a huge factor but I also think the sad fact is just that they were all at their musical peak like 15+ years ago. No to rag on the ol' folks since I'm a decrepit 30 year old but how many artists still make great music into their 40s? I think it's very, very difficult to make music consistently for 25 years let alone in the same genre.

  25. If they let Matt write everything from here on out everything would be amazing. But that would be living in a perfect world.
