Man I saw them in 2009 and that crowd was massive, but I chalked it up to the whole "reunion tour" aspect. I saw them last summer with Skiba and it felt packed shoulder to shoulder all the way back to the back fence. I could not believe it.

Maybe we have different definitions of what size "large club" is, but was anyone seriously saying that? Blink will always have name recognition and a generation of kids that grew up listening to them. Those kids now have disposable income and can afford to consistently attend shows. Add to that the fact that kids will forever be growing up and discovering Enema and S/T (those in particular, obviously the other records too).

Maybe I'm just in a bit of a bubble in the UK, but the arena closest to me (Newcastle Metro Radio) has a capacity of 11,000. Blink could fill arenas like that over here without any sort of new material. I'd even predict that 80% of people attending would not know/ care about a new record - they want the hits. I've yet to hear a Blink song on radio since After Midnight.

That's not to say I don't think the moderate success of California is a surprise or that I'm not glad about it. Of course I am. I just think that the vast majority of "casual fans" (I hate that term - just fans that don't spend hours on message boards like this adoring them haha) don't care. Sorry if this sounds a bit ranty, it just hit me and I'm procrastinating doing work - don't mean it to be.

Don't shoot the messenger hahah but yeah that was the talk around here. Especially after that Firefly festival lineup got released and Blink was like the 11th named billed.
But I disagree with you about the nostalgia always being there to drive tickets. It may have worked for the 09 reunion tour and the 2011 honda civic tour, but after that they were slipping. All of my friends grew up loving Blink, and they honestly had no idea that Blink had done anything after the reunion tour. Like they didnt even know Neighborhoods or Dogs Eating Dogs existed. And the few that did know of it's existence said they only heard like 1 or 2 songs and didnt like it. It wasn't until Bored to Death blew up that everyone was itching for a tour.

Oh no, like I say I didn't mean it to come off as an attack haha! It just got me thinking and a rambling post came out, sorry!
Maybe its a cultural difference, or due to the fact that Blink don't tour the UK as often, then. Everyone I know has little idea that Blink actively work on new material, and if they do, openly admit they have no interest in listening to it. Despite that, they're the ones that want to see the band the most. Its basically that I don't think anyone is going to see Blink because of California or even because it was more successful than expected - its more that Blink are in town, and hey, if they like new songs thats a bonus.

I think I'm probably totally off base considering the view in this thread, but I just wanted to articulate my thoughts haha

Hahah all good man I was just joking, didnt think you were attaking!
But yeah I've always assumed that since Blink doesn't tour Europe as often they were a hotter commodity in the UK. Like for example in 2014 Blink headlined Reading & Leads, which correct me if I'm wrong but that's one of the UKs biggest festivals, right? Well that never woulda happened in the US during that time. In fact this year is the first time they're really headlining a big US fest (lollapalooza).

I just remembered that Disaster exists. Always loved that song. Really felt that they hit something there that was a good mix between AvA and self-titled Blink, if only it had a little more Mark in it.

"There's not a lot to this one other than starting a wildfire!" Woof, definitely not anticipating this song.

I also have only listened to Parking Lot (and Hey I'm Sorry) so I look forward to getting Misery and 6/8 fresh.

On days we're supposed to get a new song, I always picture @BTDandFeelingThis waking up like Billy Madison on Nudie Magazine Day
