Darling signed 4x4.15. I really hope he pans out because I want to feel what it's like to have even average goaltending

 

Is there a way to see comparable in stats from when Jones and Talbot signed their deals also?

That seems a little high for an unproven goalie.

 

I'm sure they will show up on reddit/twitter eventually. I agree it's a little high and I'm kind of nervous considering what happened with Lack. But we did finally fire our goalie coach and this money tells me that are definitely banking on having him start. With our cap space, if he can even give us average NHL starter numbers it's a win in my opinion.

 

I used Hockey reference to figure this out real quick.

Cam Talbot in 57 games played with NYR posted a .931 save % and still needs to be re-signed.

Martin Jones in 34 games played with LAK posted a .923 save % and got a 3 year 3 million aav deal.

Scott Darling in 75 games played with CHI posted a .923 save % and got a 4 year deal 4.15 million aav deal.

 

my educated thought on that is I still think it's a little high but he does have a larger career sample than the other two so it is warranted.

I'm now curious to see Cam Talbot's deal.

 

3 years/$4.17 AAV for Talbot

Initially a 1 year, $1.4 MM before extended.

 

must have missed it on general fanager but ok so that lines up well with the Darling deal.

I would argue go straight at 4 million but that's just the small things at that point.

 

Really happy for Darling on that deal.

Edit: And the NHL's press release misspelled the name of our hometown lol
