That album is phenomenal. My personal favorite of theirs by far. I'm interested in this playlist you're referring to though, care to link?

Dopamine was pretty easily my favorite off that album along with Ionizes and Head South. It was a fine album but I think I enjoy individual songs more-so than the full album

It didn't haha but I'll try and look it up via iTunes.

And I've said this before on this forum, not sure if it was in this thread or not - but where is the new music? Isaac said that they would release music as soon as legally possible. It's been over two years now though.

so they were originally a trio and now theyve expanded to have like 300 members thats pretty wild.

But seriously its pretty incredible that 3 people crafted those first few albums. Live videos are also cool seeing how they have so many extra members playing all the various instruments.

I wouldn't listen to the b-side albums until after you've completed the actual studio albums. I think you shouldn't overwhelm yourself with too much MM and maybe stick to one or two records a day. They're definitely a lot to take in.

I also think revisiting the older ones after listening through their discography helps you appreciate them more

makes sense. I'm now listening to LCW just because "Teeth Like Gods Shoeshine" struck me so hard I was like "I gotta listen to the album this song came from". I am blown away

one more: stunning. that song so perfectly covers the general themes this album seems to be going for. This tug of war between "old and new", the criticizing of material possessions and Western beliefs, the overwhelming sense of anxiety and distress that urbanization and societal expectation brings with their reformations, etc.

Cowboy Dan's a major player in the cowboy scene
He goes to the reservation, drinks and gets mean
He "didn't move to the city, the city moved to me
    And I want out desperately"

Omg exactly yes. Cowboy Dan is, to me, one of the songs that best encapsulated the album for me as well as one of the quintessential early modest mouse songs. Glad you're enjoying it all so far!

Also I don't think this is a very popular opinion, but Trucker's Atlas my favorite LCW song.

so is WWDBTSES considered their "worst" album? Because of the handful of tracks I've heard from it I really liked them, a bit more streamlined and "poppy" but they didnt seem to lack the charm or menace of the earlier stuff I've listened to.

Im really excited to get into M&A and Good News as well as Strangers but I've already heard it a couple times when it released.

Lonesome Crowded West is easily my favorite, probably a top 10 of all time for me. Crazy how much music I love is inspired by that album.

WWD can be inconsistent but I think it's amazing still. Little Motel is top tier and makes me cry every goddamn time

edit: glance at the track list reveals so many fucking great songs on there

We Were Dead is my favorite MM record. Spitting Venom and Parting of the Scensory are absolutely phenomenal. Little Motel as well. Entire record (as most of there albums are) is incredible, imo.

I honestly probably haven't given WWDBTSES a fair enough shot, but my impression of it has always been that it has some career highlights (Little Motel particularly), but was overall a bit of a chore to make it through in full.

Also because it looks like it's basically where this thread is heading....
    TMAA>(but almost equal to)LCW>Good News>Long Drive>WWD=Strangers

  25. I love seeing people get into this band. I saw them last year and it was the greatest night. Can't believe I had barrier!! Here's a pretty cool video of them playing Cowboy Dan at my show:
