Good News was my entry point and hooked me pretty much instantly, but Moon took me a few months to really sink into from there. It took me literally two years of sporadically trying to get into LCW before it clicked. I don't expect most people to care enough to try that hard, but that album is so rewarding when it hits you the right way.

i get where you're coming from re: the production. i started with good news for people who love bad news and love everything after it. that said, the lonesome crowded west is probably my favorite modest mouse record. it takes some time to get into, but when it clicks, it fucking clicks. it has a rawness and emotional pull their other albums don't quite reach. i don't know how you first listened, but if you're able to give it a shot on some sort of longer car or train ride, that'd be my recommendation.

also, i don't know if it has been posted in here yet, but i always love going back to this documentary. it's worth a watch even if you aren't super into the album yet.

First album of theirs I ever listened to only because a crush I had in high school loved it so I gave it a spin, wasn't really my thing at the time, but it grew on me a few years later

I am about to sit down and attempt to get into this band because I reeeeeeally want to like them. I've got all the albums queued in chronological order, ive only heard a handful of songs so a lot of this will be new material to me. I'll update as I go along for those that care.

i am very sorry if this comes off as insensitive or mean spirited because i know it cant be helped, but Isaacs lisp distracts me and I'm honestly not sure why. But I'm sure I'll get used to it because I honestly do like his vocals so far, and this is just the debut so I'm betting he gets even better.

So far pretty great. They have some looooooong albums so I wont be doing all of this in one sitting but I'm currently on track 3 of the debut and its really pleasant indie rock. I can already hear how theyve been so influential to so many other bands in our scene.

Dramamine is my favorite Mouse song but that first album does drag a little bit. also YEAH one of the best power trios in indie rock (while they were a trio)

"Ionizes and Atomizes" and "Head South" are a hell of a 1-2 punch. I can feel it. That fleeting little euphoria I get when I discover something I love. Its happening, live on Chorus.fm. Kenneth is being converted into an MM fan

They really like to just jam huh? Makes the recordings feel so organic. Like they forgot to turn off the tapes and just kept playing.

yeah i went ahead and downloaded all i could, EPs compilations and the other albums, and I noticed that too. The track lengths get shorter and shorter haha.

So i listened to Long Drive front to back and really enjoyed it. I've now stumbled across a playlist of "essential MM songs" so im giving it a listen through simply because I didnt realize the breadth of their catalog and just how much music there is to digest. But so far I'm very much enjoying it. I really like Long Drive but I can already tell I'm going to like the other stuff more.

  24. Long Drive is a difficult starting point imo--although Dramamine is an amazing first song.
