Why would the Saints trade one of their best offensive players for a lineman

Sean Payton's hatred for Ingram knows no bounds

I would do it if I were the Saints. Ingram is injury prone and while very good, not special or anything. Plus they just signed AD, drafted Kamara, and Sean Payton is capable of getting production out of practically any RB. Kelce's contract is actually pretty nice too while Ingram's is up in a couple years and I doubt they will want to extend him by then anyway.

It is kind of amazing. That said, if I was Ingram, Id want out of NO. They are paying more to a guy who's missed 2 of the last 3 seasons and is 32.

I really don't get why people want to crush AD. He didn't look great in the first two games before the injury, but I think most of that was because opponents just had to focus on run defense due to the quick implementation of Bradford. Those opponents were Tennessee and Green Bay, who were 2nd and 8th best run defenses in the league last year.

Otherwise, AD was still pretty damn good in 2015. The injuries are always big worries, but I still think he could be a good threat at RB still.

My critique is specific to this situation, though of course AP is a freak and may defy all logic. Only Emmett Smith and Ricky Williams have broken 1000yds rushing at the age of 32 or higher. And Ricky Williams basically doesnt count since he took like 4 years off throughout his career.

Whereas they have a 27yr old Mark Ingram who got 1000+ yds on just over 200 carries. If not for Paytons insistence on using Hightower, he'd have been a 14-1500yd back and probably nearly 2000 scrimmage yards.

Yet in cash this year, AP is getting $3.5mil and Ingram is getting just over $4mil. And they might get rid of Ingram...

Gore just did this last year didn't he?

    Correct on Gore.

I do agree that the Payton experience is certainly restrictive. THAT would worry me, but my comment is just a general comment. I was just astounded on so many teams passing on him.

List I grabbed ended in 2015, so yep. Gore's the only example in the 2010s, since Williams was 09 and Emmit was in 2001 I believe

Yeah, though I think thats on the choice between some 4th round guy for $800k/yr versus having to pay AP $3mil/yr when odds are the output will be the same.

    1) Not trusting a Steelers guy on later draft picks! (Dismissing Antonio Brown here as an exception.)

    2) Sometimes, the 4th round can bring disappointment for all of us.

They just want Kamara to get more carries, in reality he just replaced Hightower cause Payton loves having 100 backs
