Apocalypse was taking on Magneto and Cyclops with ease while he was also battling Xavier in his mind. He was still ahead of them all and they only thing that defeated him was when Jean released the Phoenix Force (and even then he was going to be able to teleport away while being attacked by the Phoenix Force until Storm intervened).

 

Singer explained in the introduction to the deleted scene that society has known about mutants for 10 years and many people are not scared by them.

 

Well, and Angel being in Last Stand... And these period piece characters never aging...

This is why they need a reboot of sorts, lol, starting with Deadpool, Legion, and the upcoming New Mutants (and Gambit?) films. I'm tired of them awkwardly maneuvering around this ugly continuity and accidentally messing it up more and more each time.

 

I just figured the Angel in X3 was a different character from the Metallica fan in this movie

 

I don't think this is really that memorable of a scene though. Very little actually happens since most of it is them slooooowly walking. My feelings on the movie would have been the same. It would have just been another random scene in a tonaly unbalanced movie.

 

If you have problems with continuity errors, the X-men movies aren't for you.

 

Not to say someone is wrong for not liking continuity errors. It's just that it's become clear this franchise just doesn't care.

 

Very true. I gave up on expecting perfect continuity a looonnng time ago. I still had a lot of fun with this movie and would rate it positive though, even if it's way behind First Class and DOFP.

Angel drinking while listening to Metallica was such an amazing part of the movie. It's up there with Pizza dog and brutal Weapon X for best moment for me.

 

I guess I just have much stronger sentimental feelings about young mutants, especially Jubilee, hanging out in a mall. lol.

 

For me there are so many other characters I'd rather see than Jubilee in an Xmen movie. Growing up with the 90s cartoon, I can see people's connection to her but her powers and character for me are annoying and useless. That being said, she was cast and written in so I'm disappointed they did all that and didn't have her do anything.

 

The one thing I think the mall scene nails is how mutants are accepted by society, a vast change from DOFP or any of the other "X-Men" films.

Also, it's a nice change of pace for the movie to have a scene take a place in an area with regular people. Some of the best stuff in the "X-Men" movies is how they interact with the outside world.

 

I think the problem is that Fox didn't become interested in connecting a lot of films until the MCU craze and at that point it was kind of inevitable for there to be continuity errors in order to explore more stories with the same characters.

 

They could have cleanly rebooted it with First Class. But they kind of just kept doing whatever they want with some things.

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan despite it and I don't let it bother me or my enjoyment of the films. But Fox had a chance and did not take it. With the MCU influence, First Class came out around Thor, so it was still early on in how they were connecting their stuff.

 

Starting it in the 60s was tricky. People become invested in the actors and eventually certain actors are what will pull in some of the crowds (Fassbender and McAvoy for me and JLaw for others) so then Fox put themselves in a position to where they can't stay in same time period and they can't get brand new actors for the characters. Now we have to deal with decade-long leaps for each sequel and i'm sure they don't want to remove anyone from Apocalypse so we're going to get the same issues when the sequel takes place in the 90s.

IMO, they should have stayed with First Class but instead of it taking place in the 60s, the film takes place in the 90s and they should have ignored any previous films.

 

Gag reels are the best. I love watching actors have fun on set.

 

I agree with a lot of that but.......comparing it to the terrible Terminator Genisys....too far.

 

Hot take: I enjoyed "Genisys" more than "Apocalypse."

 

Oh no lol. There was very little enjoyable about T:G. For me, there was still a lot of cool stuff about this Xmen. At least the acting was good in this one. T:G's acting and dialog was terrible and the action was so stale. John shows up, says "join me". They shoot at him and run. Repeat until over.

 

Neither were that good. But Apocalypse was better.

 

This and Suicide Squad hover over the Amazing Spider-Man 2 for my least favorite superhero movie ever, but I'm starting to think this was too blandly bad for me to really feel all that strongly about it. All I really remember are the Quicksilver scene and being so, so bummed about Oscar Isaac's performance.

 

Even though I liked it, I could see people thinking Bland. No way is it straight up bad though or worse than Wolverine Origins, Spiderman 3, Amazing Spiderman 2 or maybe X3.

 

It's probably better than all those, but that's not really saying much.

 

I'd rewatch SM3 and ASM2 before Apocalypse, and X3 is at about the same level.
