There are a lot of possibilities with women's tag from a story telling perspective. Most of it doesn't feel very cohesive in ring though. They make enough money with Total Divas that they don't have to care about the entirety of the division.

 

Brand split is a terrible idea because the most interesting storyline WWE has going (the mess around the IC title) would never have happened if there was a split. The odds that the Miz, KO, Sami, and Cesaro are all on the same brand is basically 0.

It also makes NXT call-ups awkward. Are they gonna have a supplemental draft? Are they gonna draft NXT guys as future talent? This is gonna be a stupid structure that gets in the way of logic

 

The champ working both shows would be cool but I don't know what he'd do on Raw if the person he's currently feuding with is on SD.

 

Yeah I was thinking about this as well. As long as the Champ is just feuding with 1 person, both himself and the contender would only be able to appear on the contender's show. And while this feud is going on, what is everyone else who is considered a main eventer doing on the opposite brand? Maybe it'll lead to actual meaningful feuds that don't have to involve a title.

 

They could also just feud over the top title for that brand, or becoming that brand's number one contender (if they aren't the same thing)

Ultimately, I feel like there are ways to do it right, and a whole lot more ways to do it wrong, and given WWE's track record I'm far from convinced they'll do it right.

 

You think that they would have learned from the last time, but it's basically the same people running it so my hopes aren't too high.

 

According to Meltzer the plan is 2 world titles as of now, no one has any idea what they're doing with anything else it seems

Hopefully the new belt will look similar to the WHC. There has never been a better looking belt in the WWE.

Smackdown live is great but yeah I hate the brand split tremendously. All of the issues that occurred the last time they did this are just gonna keep popping up.

This doesn't work without having 2 major titles or essentially just making smackdown the nxt product.

I'll hold of to see how they handle it obviously but for the life of me I can't come up with a logical way of making this work

 

Yeah, I was thinking Smackdown as a "Shane's favorites" brand, heavily relying on NXT guys and styled that way with more technical wrestling, that could be super fun. Especially with Mauro calling it.

But even then, you'd need to be able to cycle a few guys in and out of the brands to make it work

Never watched during the brand split, but I'm interested in seeing where this goes. Already hard to watch all the wrestling I try to over the course of a week, gonna be a little hard at first adding another couple hours.

I only watched during the brand split from 05 - 07. Was Smackdown live when it first started out or has it always been pretaped?

 

Always taped though very, very rarely there will be a live episode.

I'll also be interested to see if Raw/SD get separate creative teams. There's a good chance that SD could be a consistently better show. I wouldn't get all bummed about it until we actually see the product. I'm optimistic.

 

I imagine spoilers were a much smaller problem ten years ago though
