My brain kinda went to what Rock is trying to be the new Mr McMahon character. Evil (part) owner.

Count me in under extremely interested in Roman/Rock and Cody not being all that appealing. However, I don’t like that they just upended the booking and I really do feel for Cody. Give me Rock/Roman at mania just not for the title and I really don’t care where Cody wins it but just give the man the big belt already

 

The Rock being a heel, and booked like a heel, is the only way this sort of makes sense, but it still horribly undercuts Cody by having him just willingly give it away.

And I definitely don't think they want The Rock to be heel.

At this point, the thing that seems most likely is that Triple H booked the WrestleMania card not expecting The Rock to be available, and then was told last Monday that The Rock was available and booking himself to face Roman. So, what we saw on Friday was the result of the creative team being bamboozled.

 

WWE had so much momentum prior to the rumble. Of all times, this is the least someone like the Rock has felt needed.

Yeah, there was a way to do this without Cody deciding he wants the title that Roman took a giant dump on 10 minutes before he came out.

Also, Cody's character work has been great for his WWE run, he's consistently cut good promos, and as you mention, he'll actually defend the thing at PLEs and TV shows. There's something for Randy, AJ, Drew, etc to do. There's ALL sorts of compelling angles there; Roman/Rock does not end in anything compelling either way.

If Roman/Rock happens, absolutely best case scenario is Roman drops it at Summerslam. He would pass Hogan like a week after Bash at Berlin, so odds are he aint dropping it til Survivor Series. And if the Rock wins the belt, he's even less likely to defend the damn thing (or lose at Summerslam for that matter)
