I do think Punk/Cody have great chemistry together

I originally thought Pat was only there to fill Brock’s spot but apparently that was Bronn. So Pat just straight up took a spot to jump over a rope twice in 30 seconds.

 

Punk showed last night he just can’t hang. He was gassed from working a rumble match for 20 mins. He’s gonna wrestle a good match with Seth at Seth’s level?

Nah.

I think the novelty is over and now it’s just the mid-reality of watching a non-athletic older wrestler trying to keep up in the ring and failing.

 

In my opinion, Punk was never good in the ring. His offense always looked weak. He could sell and yes you were invested in the matches because of the promos setting up the feuds.

 

Or not made spots 22->24 entirely a comedy section. Do that early in the match, not right as the match is about to heat up.

 

Dragon Lee, Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, Chad Gable....any of them over Pat and even like Kaiser would have been nice. Kaiser just does nothing for me

 

When he initially came back, he still had the stamina...he was doing 10min matches that mostly worked. But the injuries clearly took something out of him, he wasnt working those longer matches well at the end of his AEW run (basically everything after Brawl Out was a mess)

But if they run a 15-20min match that's mostly Seth selling the leg, it'll essentialyl be that Rollins/HHH match from several years back

 

Honestly, with so much going on with the product I was very underwhelmed with the Rumble. Both the men and women's RR matches ended up with the predicted winners. It was cool to speculate possibly The Rock, Punk, or Gunther winning. I honestly would have loved to see Roman lose due to Rocky stopping him from another cheap win and to set up a Cody/ Randy and Rock/ Roman. Punk/ Rollins. But yea, Punk didn't look like he could hang.
Also, going to take a lot of heat here, but I could care less about Cody finishing his story. I'm fine with him winning down the line, but it's just another thing WWE forces down your throat. Can't wait to see him lose again at WM40.

 

as a litmus test for how boring the rumble was, try to name a single spot that happened

 

The only cool spot I remember was Bianca eliminating Jordan with the KOD. Besides that the stupid R Truth stuff and not much else. Both matches suffered from the first 20 entrants doing nothing for the most part.

 

They should just go all out for the rumbles, everyone on the main men's and women's rosters get entered into the respective rumbles, would be hilarious.

 

All the Jade stuff was memorable

 

yeah I can think of stuff from the women's rumble:

Jade, Bianca's KOD, Chelsea and Piper, Kairi trying to hold on (not sure if she was supposed to come back from that or not it would've been super impressive if she did...)

but mens rumble? completely forgettable

 

Bron sending Finn to the stratosphere is the most I remember from the men’s match.

 

Random thoughts:

I don’t quite get Bronn Breaker. Looks like a generic video game character to me. At least needs to lose the goatee facial hair. Literally only Stone Cold could make that work in wrestling or in general.

Why does everyone do the Pedigree now and why is it no longer a finisher lol. Was weird when Seth did it even as a protege to Trips but Cody and Punk doing it just as a common move like a goddamn clothesline baffles me.

The fact it misses surprise entrants and legends it really hurts the product

 

now THIS is finishing the story since Corbin was the last person to pin Roman in a singles match.

 

My friends got a good chuckle when Carlito came out and I asked "is that the apple guy that stabbed Cena".

 

Exactly, never that good in the ring but didn't have to slow everything down because he was gassed constantly or try to hide it. Now he can't wrestle good or refrain from getting gassed after 4 mins of constant activity.

 

I will say Andrade’s “who the fuck are you?” response to Santos made me laugh.

 

I’m just glad I ended up not spending all that money to travel to the Rumble. The women were really the only thing I would have popped big for.
