Curious if a Punk/Drew feud was ever in the works originally when Punk came back. Usually the best storylines are the ones that are not planned/expected and if Punk doesn’t get hurt in the Rumble match I wonder if he and Drew ever would have been paired be in a storyline together. At the very least, making Drew responsible for the injury certainly elevated the story possibly above whatever would have been planned if it was ever a potential matchup.

 

I know I’m an outlier is not enjoying most of last night. But I will say, the Reigns return was great even knowing it was going to happen.

I’m guessing we get some kind of Civil War type thing at Survivor Series?

 

They usually plan Rumble interactions to tease WM matches; so, its not a leap to think Punk/Drew was a possibility then. But definitely dont think the plan was a deep as it obviously became

 

I've read that it was originally intended for Punk to win the rumble this year but then the injury had them change to Cody, but I feel like all of the steam Cody got also factored into that decision so who knows.

Curious what the current timeline would be like sans injury for sure.

 

Idk if this is a hot take at all but the WWE should be pumped as hell they have Punk right now. I think the product would be pretty meh.

Him, rollins, drew has been absolutely excellent and punk going forward has a trillion possibiliities....many of them really fascinating.

 

Yeah, I dont buy that they changed the Rumble finish on the spot. I think them teasing Rollins/Cody and then trying to roll out Rock v Roman was the adjustment after Punk got hurt, and the fans rightfully rejected that.

But they clearly didnt see Drew/Seth as a main event level match

Thought Gunther / Priest smoked everything on the show which is a huge compliment to Priest honestly lol and he gets to continue right into a hot angle so that’s dope. Punk / Drew was fine kinda wanted more out of it but they’re gonna go at least two more matches I’d imagine so I’ll be seated for the eventual cell match

 

If you would’ve told me like 5 years ago Punishment Martinez would be putting on the best match on a Summerslam card I would’ve laughed but here we are lol dude has really done such an amazing job improving in ring and in his character work.

i think Cole is finally coming to his own. Him and Graves are actually not annoying, they don't sound phony or overly produced, and i think Barrett is a nice touch (Mcafee has been way more calm lately too, im sure someone told him to not be obnoxious x1000)
