I hate getting swept up in the ratings discourse, sorry for being an absolute hypocrite today lads I just hate seeing AEW get shit on lol

 

It’s all good, it happens and the rating is jarring to see. It’s just that it’s obviously an extreme outlier and a trend is needed to make any sort of noticeable meeting out of it. I’m just hoping the Kendrick show hurt it which would make a lot of sense. Otherwise that’s a bummer.

 

I'm pretty good with my Twitter/Reddit setup, so I didn't see any of this ratings shit until I popped in here today. Disappointed in you guys lol.

 

Anywho in news that actually means something, Danny's fig is up for preorder.

They were actually solid last year; though also CM Punk was back and thats when Collision started up, so all the drop points didnt come til Sept/Oct. The overall trend is bad, but, also, so is pretty much all of TV. Honestly, NXT continuing to grow its audience is kind of wild...especially since it too is a pretty niche product.

Id be curious how Lucha Underground would have done on a non-shit network; that was the most story driven show ever, and had crossover elements for non-wreslting fans, but I suspect even that would have struggled badly to gain an audience

 

Also, my god is the Forbidden Door card great. Gotta assume we get either a Trios match or a Bucks tag match to round it out...but right now the the worst match on paper is like, MJF/Hechicero, and MJF always delivers. After that, it might legit be Danielson/Shingo, which is also gonna be 5* level

 

That's a fucking terrible ratings number, and I don't really know what AEW can do to fix that other than to get out of Forbidden Door season and start righting the ship by focusing on their internal talent.

And I say that as someone who loves what Forbidden Door brings, but clearly being a smaller niche within an already niche product isn't the answer.

Ratings discourse is dumb. You can't make people watch the show, all you can really do is watch it yourself and talk to other nerds like we do.
