MITB was pretty solid. I wish LA Knight won. Hopefully he gets that mega push now. Glad Iyo won. Kinda hoped McIntyre returned heel but he and Gunther will have a banger match. Rollins/Balor could have been better, felt like a short match. So awesome that Jey pinned Roman clean. That has to mean Jey/Roman at Summerslam

 

Finally watching MITB and uh why did shayna turn on Ronda? Do they actually think the crowd is gonna cheer Ronda?

 

wrestling is the best it's ever been, wild how pretty much any PPV/PLE from this year could be the best show of the year for pretty much anytime 2010 and prior.

it's also helpful because those who piss and moan still look dumber than ever and it's easy to know who to ignore

 

the people upset about Knight not winning are particularly wild. we all want long-term booking but then when someone gets hot people want them to get a belt or briefcase w no plan, and may i direct you to Austin Theory

I don't think the two are as mutually exclusive as this post makes them appear. The benefit of having a plan, and having a long term vision is when a really good opportunity jumps up (Sami, LA Knight (though i do not get the love for him at all)) you can pivot and adapt easily because 95% of the rest of your product is still well structured and thought out lol

 

but what does that say to a Priest, who has been delivering for a very long time and has likely been penciled in for this for a minute? do you have Knight cash in on Rollins, whose previous run was plagued by bad booking that got him booed as a face and risk getting him a negative reaction again after rehabbing his character, or cash in on Roman and lose?

 

Yeah, it feels like at this point the build is Jey obviously is losing to Roman. But it possible sets up Solo to abandon Roman because he does something heinous, and the end game is either Roman all alone and Cody beats him, or its the spot where Solo gets his push, Hangman style, where the Uso's nod along as he spikes Roman's head off.

Also, face MITB winners are a universally bad idea. It was bad for Otis. It was honestly kind of bad for Big E. Strowman looked like a dumbass announcing his cash-in. I think only the people who immediately cash in (Ambrose, Nikki, Liv, etc) as faces it works out for.

Theory went on to lose like 90% of his matches after winning it...all MITB winners start losing a lot or disappearing from TV to make people forget it exists. Better for Priest to get it and bide his time to take out Finn and cash in on Seth

 

Why wouldn’t priest cash in on Roman after that exhausting match

 

i just put together that Jay White didn't get a match at Forbidden Door and wonder if that was because he so recently left NJPW, kayfabe adherence to the "no matches for NJPW" stip, or neither

 

I thought the stip could be the reason too. I'm a bit surprised at how he's been used. Thought he'd be facing all the big names right off the bat but he's been more of a mid-card/upper-card guy.

 

I kinda figured he'd be used like Cole was early on; surely a debuting Jay White could have been a massive face for a bit and taken a run at MJF.

But I kinda assumed the Forbidden Door absence might be them just sorta avoiding the conflict of having to book him against a current NJPW guy, especially if they want Jay to win

MITB. The WWE has really been hitting on all cylinders on these ppvs. From the production, to the way they've spread the matches out, giving a few surprises and what not. This is a pretty good roll.

Mens MITB. Solid. As i said previously, now that we have "two main belts", winning the briefcase becomes less of a big deal. Damien was the only person that could've won but the fact that theres 0% chance he cashes in roman (let alone beats him) is disappointing. The right guy won and it's a nice piece for the career but... yeah. Oh of course I love LA Knight but even I felt like this wasn't the spot for him. This was Priests moment all the way.

Womens MITB. Eh, kinda sloppy at times and there was never really a doubt that Io was winning this, but i actually loved the finish, very clever..and just because it was a predictable winner, doesn't make it a bad one. The womens division would also benefit from having only 1 main belt.

Womens tag match. Shockingly good match? I loved the flow of the match, it was the right pace, and the Shayna turn done DURING the match was unique. I liked everything about this. Shayna needs another chance.

Cody vs Dom. Good pseudo comedy match. Rhea is the MVP of this company right now. Her mannerisms are perfect. I was more into this than Cody vs Lesnar

Gunther v riddle. I'm beating a dead horse with this adding a new belt crap but Gunther is a guy that gets kinda hurt by it. He was your undisputed 2nd champion. The ic title all of a sudden felt like the ic title of old. Anyways. Good squash? Gunther is the whole package and loved the interaction with Drew at the end. Every match had something added to it.

Rollins vs Balor. Other than Priests involvement, I had the least interest in this match. Balor is a bona-fide loser at this point. Judgement day is great but wow balor never ever ever looks strong.

Main event. Reigns getting pinned was great. Personally, I don't love how the bloodline story has gone since mania. Its not bad, especially since we're talking about the wwe here, but while the usos winning here is nice, it's a little like...now what? I'm being nitpicky its all solid just not what I would have done so I'm bitter.

Cena segment was way way way too long just to introduce the world to Waller. Cut like 5 minutes out of this segment and it would be been short and simple but lol


Yeah solid ppv. Easy B/B+ grade

 

I can see Bullet Club Gold becoming a huge heel stable in the coming months. Jay's the only member I can really take seriously though lol

 

Cody had a match against Dom? I’m so out of the loop, I wonder how that storyline got started. And not to knock Dom and it’s always good to have matchups that haven’t been done to death but what a wild trajectory of Cody being in storylines with Roman, Lesnar and then… Dom lol

 

Also think I read that this is the first women’s MITB winner that didn’t cash in on the same night in 5 years??? That’s insane they did that so many years in a row.

 

Not quite, Nikki A.S.H. cashed in the next night. So even if Io cashed in on Raw tomorrow, she’s guaranteed to be at least the second longest holder of the women’s briefcase ever
