Other than wrestling geeks, awards show producers are the only other people who use TV ratings to defend their opinions.

Sounds like this was taken from some WWE Stan. The show is doing fine. TV viewership in general is falling across the board and let’s not act like #4 in viewership is bad. Losing to the NBA and the most popular cable shows isn’t a bad thing at all. Also comparing its numbers to NXT Black/Gold isn’t fair considering TV viewership is down as a whole so 800-900K means more than it did 2-3 years ago.

WWE marks see under a million for Dynamite and cum in their pants when they really should reevaluate their entire lives.

Seems pretty obvious at this point that two things are true long-term, the first being that Punk really did bring a consistent like 100k fans to the show. And even that was flagging a bit before he went all agro. And the second is that AEW's audience isnt much on the 18 side of the 18-49; I think there was a report the average age was actually 49...so entirely possible some of the fanbase has just literally aged out. Add in the cable cutting decline and competition from the NBA/NHL/Vanderpump, etc.

Short-term ratings, there seems to be no logic as to what episodes do and dont draw. Off the PPV, tonight should have been hot...and wasnt. The "every title defended" episode was flat. TK has a "big" announcement and they draw a million. Nothing consistent at all

If AEW has million fans, then I'm one of them.
If AEW has one fan, then I'm that one.
If AEW has no fans, that means I'm dead.

To the age point, I do wonder how their online content impacts viewership among the younger demographic. On a basketball podcast the other day the host was talking about how their teenage son gets so much of his basketball consumption through social media and highlights, and is less likely to actually sit and watch a whole game. I can't help but wonder how many AEW viewers just wait and catch all of the highlights through Youtube afterwards. I know if I don't watch the 1:00am replay on TSN2 here (because primetime TV is like the 1.5 hour my wife and I can spend together that isn't work or parenting related), I'll usually just get everything I need from the AEW youtube channel over the coming day.

  11. I’m glad the other day Dave said he had an update on The Elite and WWE/AEW and the update was

“WWE is interested. AEW is interested in keeping them”

    Thanks Dave

Is WWE willing to hand over the reigns to video games to Kenny? I feel like his ability to dabble in several of his interests with AEW would on top of everything else stop him from moving somewhere else - and has been an understated point in the discourse about him.

I dont think WWE really has any involvement in that, certainly not at a kind of level that they micromanage the TV shows, etc.

Yeah, its certainly a major thing for WWE as well, as they get millions of views on stuff from RAW/SD; though oddly AEW seems to have damn near no push on Youtube (and I dont really follow them elsewhere). AEW feels more disconnected social media wise than WWE, who makes having a super active social media a big part of their show.

Just wild that WWE has nearly 100mil subscribers and AEW has like 3.5mil

  16. I don't really care other than to prove my point that no one cares that MJF is champion.

  17. not really - just points out that MJF isn't a draw at all and that the company still misses what Punk brought on a week to week basis.

That was really my point - not that it was personal against him, but that the scale of WWE operations and how they work with their partners doesn't really accommodate talent getting involved in initiatives like that. So AEW does provide a unique opportunity for someone like Kenny to be able to work behind the scenes on the things he does, while still then perform on national TV as often as he likes.
