Because that person is going to win the Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber, which are bigger deals than MITB. Or if its the Rock, then the person that beats Roman will probably be the person that wins MITB next June...them having the briefcase that expires shortly after WM is not a great situation.

If anything, I'd have had him cash in successfully on a lesser belt just to open up that possibility (since Charlotte going for the NXT belt isnt really that different).

 

His opponent will either be Theory or Logan Paul but Logan Paul tore his meniscus, MCL and ACL halfway through the match earlier in Saudi Arabia.

I was thinking that yeah, that person will also win RR or EC. "Failed cash-in on Roman" would just be the start of that story

This is the absolute funniest goddamn part about the cash in - it makes Theory look like a total dumbass who doesn’t even believe in himself. I honestly didn’t even know the briefcase worked that way since it’s never been played out like that. At least with Corbin losing his cash in match he was thinking big picture - world champ! Theory going for the US Title is like… “I don’t believe I can beat Roman even in a sneaky after long match kind of way so, uh, how about the US Title!” and then he made that somehow even more embarrassing.

I hope Trips put that whole segment together because that was fantastic comedy and a superb way to kill a character.

Kind of surprised they didn’t just move the IC belt to Raw or at least show it more on Raw (does brand separation still exist? Thought I saw the Uso’s and that newer Uso guy on Raw yesterday but since the tag titles are combined maybe that’s why) since the IC title seems hot with the Russian guy (think he’s Russian lol) and Sheamus in their feud - especially since the IC belt has always long supposed to be the #2 belt.

 

I know what they're "trying" to do with the US & IC titles but fans aren't ever going to see it that way unless Roman disappears off TV for a year while holding both belts. Rollins/Gunther isn't a bad set, though. Same with Lashley but he gets stale so quickly, especially as a babyface.

 

The one benefit it does have is that you can hot shot around the US/IC title more than you can the main belt, as people are used to seeing that change hands on TV and people not having 6+ month reigns...so you dont risk so many people stuck in no mans land.

But yeah...they almost need to run WM where both the winner of the Rumble and EC get a shot at Roman and it splits the belts. He loses to Cody or whatever for the RAW belt, but beats The Rock for the SD belt.

 

Gunther also had a run where he wasn’t wrestling until the Sheamus feud while Lashley had a title defense almost every week. Smackdown is always going to be the Roman/Bloodline show but I wonder if we start seeing some upper card guys like McIntyre competing for the IC belt now.

 

I love the history of some of the belts and how stupid most have been treated.

Didn’t Ambrose have the US title for like, 8 months and he only had 1 title match?

Same with the IC and tag belts at times where they went a ridiculous amount of time between matches and those people ended up with some of the longest “title reigns” because of it.

Personal favorite being titles that didn’t even make it to the PPV called Clash of CHAMPIONS.

 

I'm pretty sure that's the inevitable endgame of elevating the US and/or IC title. So Roman can rarely show up on RAW with those belts being the main titles for RAW

Yeah, I just have my doubts of it working because they've always been presented as midcard belts and you still have Roman owning the main titles. Times are different now, though.
