I really do not get the point of this. It seems so fucking odd. Like there’s no reason to remove one of the names, just call her Shotzi, but keep the ring name Shotzi Blackheart.

Man, I genuinely think “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry (or “Jungle” Jack Perry) is a great ring name. Got a great old school feel to it. Best thing JR has done in AEW but they keep it as just Jungle Boy

 

I mean, some of the most famous wrestlers of all time are Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, The Rock, and The Undertaker, so, I dont think they're actually bad names at all, and hell, I'd take Jungle Boy and Orange Cassidy a hundred times over before Cash Wheeler.

The WWE trend of stripping peoples interesting names down to one word is more problematic than Malakai Black for sure

 

I think jon moxley is a dumb name. It’s wrestling, it’s all dumb. Comes with the territory. So long as he gets to kick the shit out of cody and goes over, I don’t care what he’s called.

 

Definitely a better name than Dean Ambrose though, who if I had to guess who was named that, I'd assume he was one of the Duke Lacrosse players who got accused.

 

I think Jon Moxley sounds great to me when he’s being introduced on the way to the ring. It sounds so silly in normal speech though.

The thing I don't get about shortening names is that it only makes them *less* marketable and lessens their persona. With incredibly few exceptions, the most popular and well known wrestlers of all time had full names AND an accompanying moniker that was significant in getting their character over.

Think of how awful things would've been in the past if the most iconic wrestlers had been reduced to a single name.

 

Mandy to NXT is apparently a full time thing, still seems really weird.

 

1000000% this. Trying to pitch a story on a wrestler named just "Ali" versus "Mustafa Ali" is incredibly difficult. I know, because when we were trying to do something with him a year or two ago, the very first note from my editor was, "Wait, his name is just Ali?"

Wonky, ridiculous names will always have a place and inherently be pro wrestling (The Rock, The Undertaker, Ricochet, Big E, Edge), but those names are so clearly characters. Versus Shotzi or Charlotte or Ali or Miro or Otis or Riddle, which all just make you sort of say, "Who do they think they are, Cher?"

 

Especiallly since the main roster is so thin right now - unless they are expecting Becky back ASAP

 

How is there still a women's tag division when they keep releasing or moving talent?
